The Scariest/biggest Handful Bike

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Advikaz, Feb 11, 2016.

  1. Away with my thoughts this morning,

What's the scariest/biggest handful bike you've ever ridden or owned?

So basically what bike have you ridden that you've thought 'jesus f*cking christ how is this allowed'... or just been a right handful to ride ...

For me, for pure corner exit arse twitching it has to be the fireblade. The one I've ridden hard was a 14 reg non abs. So much torque it really makes the thing a animal.

For top end rush it's got to be the s1000rr although it never 'scared' me like the blade did in its sledge hammer power delivery.

I'm a young one, so bet some of you have some great stories of the old 'widow' makers as well

    Yours and why?

  2. Scariest thing for me was a looooong time ago (late 70s) Kawa KX400 stroker, f'kn mental MX bike, lightswitch throttle response must've looked like a rodeo rider way too much for the dirt was never gonna tame that beastie :Blackeye:

  3. Kawasaki 750 turbo.........rubbish handling, when the turbo kicked in all hell broke loose. Laverda Jota was pretty hairy too.

  4. My 6 cylinder CBX Turbo. Nothing. Nothing. 160 bhp. On a 130 section back tyre. Did have a box section swingarm on though which used to bend

  5. I rode my next door neighbour's Katana 750 when the biggest bike I'd ridden up to that point was a 125. Holy shit it felt like a rocket ship! The thing felt massive as well.
I've ridden the 1299S on track in Sardinia and while it was a beast it was so composed and easy to ride that it never felt out of control or that it was going to kill you at all. Amazing bike.
I also have three friends that bought the new Kawasaki H2 so I am still in negotiations about having a ride on one... :)

  6. Had a good chuckle at some of these. Something we can all relate to isn't it

    Keep them coming

  7. First bike after my learner 125 was a Suz GT750A.

Second gear on that device was exquisite but the tendency to fish-tail at full berries/full acceleration was the true thrill. I remember the first set of "modern" tyres I put on it ... I thought I was falling off every time I leant even a tiny bit.

    It was a learning curve.

  8. 1000RX Kawasaki.......a rocket propelled slab of iron and aluminium...........

....had to climb all over the tank to get it to go round a corner, yet when stationary, it would topple over as easy as anything.

  12. That's interesting because I've heard that the 1199 is an animal as well!

    As well as the 1098/1198?

  13. My 1098R in its current state of tune. It's utterly mad, wild, and wants to kill you. Love it.

  14. Way back in the '80's I had a go on my friends Yamaha TZ500H ex Ted Broad\Dave Potter, until that time I had only raced TZ250's. It was like being strapped to a rocket!!!!! and with flimsy frame and narrow tyres by today's standards it was like going into orbit every time you opened the throttle. The powervalve setup made little difference in taming it.

Funnily I thought I was going quite fast until someone came past me as I came onto the straight on the back wheel of his then brand new Suzuki RG500 Mk VIII, now that was really fast.

It gave me a lot of respect for the GP racers of the time riding works 500's.

  17. My 1198s is a bit nuts
Previous owner and racer - installed the ducati superbike team map by getting them to lo it at the circuit, full exhaust, air etc etc
Not otherwise tuned but the power delivery is very sudden and the torque is huge
Couple this with the suspension set up really really stiff and its a bit wild and unstable
Its hilarious to ride just a bit scary round roundabouts :)

  18. A friends Hayabusa. Probably not for the reasons you are thinking of. I jumped on it straight after my streetfighter and it felt wallowy and spongy. The brake lever came back almost to the bar and I had no confidence in it. It felt like a big, fast sofa and I hated the thing.

  19. I was too young to ride at the time but me and my younger brother were on a standard gt 250 (which I later bought) nothing special I know. It ran out of fuel.I've never been as scared trying to get it back without being erm noticed. lol.

  20. Desmosedici at 16,000 revs down the back straight at Mugello - the whole thing is screaming and shaking like its Armageddon and it's all you can do to hang-on. Brilliant :)
