Replacement dashboard

  1. As mentioned in coolant thread, dealer today told me that they are putting in a warranty claim for my clocks, that have a faint glowing engine management light showing when in neutral or flashing when indicators are on.

My major concern is that they cannot re-programme current mileage on they will be zero'd, and that the service reminders will be all to cock.

I wondered if anyone who has had this done have had a repeat of the problem ? ie, wonder if the clocks PCB have actually been improved or if the problem will just come back again ?

  2. On my 3rd set of clocks now, 1st before i got the bike (ex demo with 2k on) so problem unknown, 2nd due to an ecu update which made the horn sound permanently, fingers crossed i won't need another. Each time clocks 0 so had to keep a note of mileage & take it back to have service/warning lights switched off. Welcome to the Multistrada little niggle club. My latest is the front brakes pulsing, current mileage,as far as my notes say, 9,500

  3. Multigatto (multistrada.net) ...an Italian chap who is able to supply the old Multi clocks with what ever mileage you want already programed in. It can be done on those so maybe a word with him might prove fruitfull,
or maybe Scorpio Electronics, Norfolk. they do repairs and reprogramming.

  4. Dealer just ordered new dash for me as the total miles jumped to 99,999 and stayed there. Everything else including the 2 trip settings is working. I'm riding while waiting for the new dashboard.

  5. Will be interesting to see how the electronics 'improve' under VAG ownership. Volkswagen came top as the least reliable in dashboard electronics failures in the J D power car survey this year!

  6. Another thumbs up for Scorpio Electronics, Norfolk. I bought a Cat c write off multi. Brought it back to life and sent the smashed beyond repair clock together with a good SH clock to Scorpio. they managed to 'transfer' all the info from the old clock to the new including the correct milage for about £75.

The clocks did show an 'unrecognised unit' fault in the round section. I then took the bike to Parkinsons (Colchestor) and they got rid of the fault notification for about £80.

Far cheaper than brand new clocks and setup!

  7. Have emailed scorpio and are waiting on a response. Cost wise i am not bothered as the clocks are free under warranty, just cant believe that they cannot transfer the mileage data.

  8. I agree - a £30 Cat-eye cycle computer even allows you to input the existing mileage!

  9. Dealers cannot get involved in mileage changes to instruments, no matter what reason, due to fraud legislation. companies that do alter readings use a loophole in the law.

  10. Well Scorpio can alter mileage, but it would mean cutting a hole in the back of the clocks to get into them, then i wonder about them being waterproof etc, they reckon around £100

I really dont know if it is best to just leave them as they are, i can live with a faint glow, but wonder if they would get worse over time.

Or as i have almost 10k on clock, get new ones fitted and then change belts, then new clocks will then be in correct mileage for future service schedules just 10k out on actual mileage., its such a shame that all this is controlled by the clocks and not n the ecu, that would be much easier, cost of changing belts from my independant guys £200.

  11. Nik do you think it's possible to order the new clock and just wait to install it?

  12. Cant see dealer doing that to be honest, but might be worth a shot.

  13. I'm in the same position as you Nik - feel like leaving it but will it get worse? Also think Ducati would need the faulty dash back so no way of keeping both....

  14. Bob, mine is just a faint glow on the engine management light, that acts the same as whatever else is showing, ie static for neutral or main beam, or flashing with indicators, is yours the same symptoms ?

  15. Mine is just a permanent faint glow on left indicator light and the neutral light flashes on and off faintly when indicating - barely noticeable in daylight conditions

  16. Unfortunatly it does get worse, mine started like Bobs then when i turned on the indicators all warning lights flashed:frown:. Just had it replaced plus Des ecu n right switchgear, hopefully thats the end of it.

  17. As an electronics engineer with a fair few years experience of LED lightning I would suggest that this is low level corrosion causing leakage current between two or more pins of an chip or connector. Is it possible to expose the circuit board without permanent damage to the casing? If yes, then following the tracks back from the offending LEDs to a point where they either go to a connector or chip will show white or blue corrosion. Very carefully run a scalpel between the tracks and using a fine fibre glass brush clean any adjacent exposed chips. Once ""repaired", seal with a ptfe based lacquer.

  18. Hi All
I have Diavel, A proplem about Dasboard. When gear N, Dasboar on Tank show C, some flash 2 and 3Can you show me Fault code. And How to repair
    thanks!

  19. The dash problem does not give a fault code

  20. OK...at 23K miles my MTS1200 (June 2010) is now showing a faint green neutral lamp (LED?) if any other lamp is lit e.g. low fuel lamp.
I'm not going to do anything about it as I think it's just some leakage current across a chip or connector.
I assume anyone else riding with this fault has not experienced any other form of failure?
