749 749r Tank Wanted

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Sdj5, Jul 5, 2015.

  1. Hi,
i have a 2004 749r and was thinking of getting another bike. Maybe a 999, but I love the look of the larger tank on the 749r. Ive seen them come up occasionally on the net so will keep looking for one. If anyone has one or knows of one for sale please let me know.

    Cheers

Guess I should have posted in the wanted thread !

  2. I know Putney was selling one, but I do not know if he has sold it? But you can check with him?

  3. Thanks Spanky 101. I see he hasn't been on here for awhile.hopefully he returns and i can ask the question.

  4. I have just listed my spare tank on eBay.

  5. I have one too.

  6. Mine needs a slight repair hence the price. Small ding on bottom left.

  7. Mine's otherwise mint but due to a long time in storage without pump there's slight surface rust on a weld seam inside.

  8. That's pretty standard, nothing a rub down won't fix. How much u looking for?

  9. I was hoping for 459£ @Putney

  10. Keep an eye on German ebay, I've seen a few tanks like mine (23 litre Carbon fibre, see pic) come up now and then, they seem to be more popular with the continentals!, not cheap though, mind you I spose you get what you pay for.

  11. Your rear brake master cylinder is looking a bit wonky :Wideyed: @yellowducmaniac

  12. It's fine, must be the angle of the pic. ...Thanks for the concern. :grinning:

  13. Where did you source your breather kit? Putney has started a thread and I am also looking for one. Your tank look great!

  14. I bought one from jerry Teague forum member but he didn't supply me with all the kit despite me paying for it. No refund either. After 2.5 years! Also another forum member not received their goods at all!

    So now I'm looking again

  15. Thanks Spanky,The tank comes with the breather nipple fitted as standard, its just a matter of fitting a length of pipe and breather valve ,although I tried several types of one way breather valves and still got a spurt of petrol after filling the tank,i finished up by fitting a long braided pipe and routing it round the inside of the cockpit in an attempt to stop the fuel surge, STILL getting a spurt though so not sure what the answer is...its something I can live with for the moment ,will look deeper In to it when the weather starts to pick up.

    Sdj5....Sorry for the thread hijack....

  16. Dirt bike shops are a good source of breather valves.

  17. Tried them all, even tried an original one off a 851 that my mech lent me to try, first of all I thought I had it fitted the wrong way round ,tried it both ways still got a spurt, think its something to do with the increased capacity of the tank and syphoning action.

  18.
  19. How odd - a one way valve should be exactly that :/

How about a one way valve for hydraulic fluid bleeding? I wonder if that would be any better...

Maybe even put two valves into the system??

  20. That is odd that you are having the fuel blow back? Have you thought of contacting the place of purchase to see if they have had any of the same issues with other customers who bought their tanks? Perhaps they can offer a fix? Who supplied your tank, Kamna? Good luck, hope you can solve it, as I can only imagine how annoying that must be?
