Flaking Paint

  1. /\ what he said!........I've had numerous after market systems over the years, all those (and most stock systems) faired better than the more expensive Termi

Depends on your expectations and experience I guess.......from Ducati/Termignoni and at the price and having far better quality from the likes of Remus.....I expected a lot better!!!
Yes you should be more 'picky! lol

Fixed that comment for you :D
Decent quality stainless will not weather.......you may get 'heat bloom' but that's it.

Well done, congrats :D............photos of the corrosion please ;-)

They can say what they like.........not fit for purpose is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE......no excuse for poor quality parts and finishes especially on a 'premium' product and assuming that was an official statement (which I suspect it isn't.....although quite possibly the unofficial line) doesn't affect your consumer rights!
" It may well end up costing them a fortune." .....would be a lot cheaper to apply a decent finish in the first place!

  2. Photos tomorrow Andy :D

  3. Andy, I think the stopping of warranty on engine coatings was official, it certainly was the line from dealers, and maybe also in the small print of warranty booklets. they recon it's wear & tear in normal useage

  4. Also known as "We're too incompetent/can't be arsed to get the coating right, so we'll make up some b*llocks about wear and tear".

There's a 15yo Bandit that parks at my office and the casing paint on that is fine, it gets ridden year round too (some of the other cycle parts are a bit rough, mind)

  5. Photos of the corrosion. Maybe not really bad but not what I would expect from a 'premium' product!

  6. Thanks Bob (just a bit late....had little time for the forum recently :frown: ) .....can you email me the original camera files please ;-)

More ammunition for anyone trying to get corroded engine cases / water pump covers replaced under Warranty. The following (posted on behalf of a non forum member.....you will be joining some time though won't you Harris?!)

Sept 2010 bike, bought just 2 months ago (i.e. second owner), 19500 miles on the clock...

  7. That gear lever bent in the first photo?

  8. Modification as Harris has very small feet! lol

  9. He just moved the lever out the way to take a better picture

What do you fellows suggest to prevent this? I dont want it to happen to Delilah, may scar her beauty?

  10. Ride it often and wash it well, don't put it away wet. And buy some Hammerite...

  11. Hi Guys.
I've got a 2012 touring with 15000km had it 2 months. It was bought used. Last owner was in Scotland, must of neglected it. I noticed the bars first, then the radiator, then after seing this post, the casings and the swingarm!

Has anyone got any companies in mind who can repaint / powdercoat?

  12. By the way guys I popped in to my dealer to get the coolant changed and checked on the progress of my warranty claim for the generator cover. Guess the price of the cover..... Just shy of £500!!!:eek:

  13. I've just heard from my dealer that Ducati will finally replace my engine casings as 'a gesture of goodwill'. Result!

  14. Nice one :upyeah:

  15. I'm still waiting for a decision on mine... generator and clutch covers both need replacing.

  16. Hi all, mine's just out of waranty now (1989 Strada) but trying to locate a firm in the UK who can strip, blast and powder coat the engine casings. I can see that Elliot has asked similar question. If anyone knows a firm that can do a quality job already, that would be great but if not and I find one, I'll let you know.

  17. I go to these guys for all my powder coating Triple 'S' Powder Coating | Home - they are supposed to be the best in the business but I'm not sure if they strip parts prior to coating - think you'd have to do that yourself or get someone else to do it....

they've done engine cases for me in the past and I can't fault them

  18. Blimey Bob, that was quick ... thanks v much

I'm going to try Dry Ice Blasting vs Abrasive Blasting to prepare them for powder coating. I'll let you know if this works out.

  19. They will prep the articles for you prior to coating....

  20. Thanks again Bob.
