749 749 R Breather Kits

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Putney, Feb 26, 2016.

  1. Does anyone know which company made these or an alternative?

I only have the tubing and the tank nipple but need the rest of the kit.

Originally paid £125 for the kit from Jerry Teague, took him two years to deliver half a kit and I'm fed up of asking for the rest of it. So if anyone has one for sale please PM me.

  2. Presumably the rest is the one way valve and the overflow bottle?

The one way valve could be got from eBay and I use one on my RGV250 track bike which I got from a quick search.

By the photo the overflow bottle is made by Acerbis so a look on their website should turn up one as they make a lot of those sort of products for Motocrossers etc.

If you have the machined nipple to screw into the tank the rest should not be a problem.

  3. £125 quid!!! I made mine for less than £25. Its the machined nipple that's the hardest to come by, luckily my old workplace machined one for me.

  4. Putneyyyyy! How are you mate!? I wasn't sure if you even still had your baby R anymore? Thought maybe you were too busy riding your Monster? And if so, where are you and the missus keeping your clean laundry? ;) Nice to see you on the forums again. Of course you could have been here tons and I wouldn't have noticed, since I am generally on the ms.ducati site. But I digress.
I am buying a 749R carbon/kevlar tank that needs the same kit. Let me know what you figure out?
    Hope you are doing well...

  5. Why is this kit needed, if the bike works without it?
Even with non standard fuel fillers, the tank still breathes ok.

  6. It looks cool...:upyeah:

  7. They do indeed look cool, but for my 749R tank, it's due to the continual gas seeping out around the bolt during the really hot Summer months. Last Summer was especially hot where I live and having to continually wipe gas from around the screw and down the side of my tank was extremely annoying.
Putney, who has helped me out more times than I can count, managed to get me one of these highly sought after breather kits from Jerry. I am looking forward to a Summer without seepage. Thanks mate!

  8. Mine has only ever pissed on the floor when I over filled it. Don't normally sit on the bike and put fuel in but when I decided to put it on the side stand moments later it did a little wee of fuel on the floor. this was from the overfill pipe.

  9. Replace the gasket ring on the bolt and put some petrol resistant sealant on the threads.

  10. I thought of putting an o-ring in there to seal it up, but then figured that they wouldn't have added the breather for no reason. I understand that they are meant for the breather kits for race bikes, but it does serve it's purpose, despite the mess it creates.
I am looking forward to installing the breather kit when it arrives. Thanks for the advice regardless Jusutus.

  11. The plug on your tank has no breather function. It's a closed bolt, providing just a connection for an external breather configuration if one decides to install one. The tank has a breather hose in the front left connection.
