So today I decided to remove the rear cans off my 848 and give them a little TLC. The stubborn tar and general muck and dust which hides on the hard to reach places. I started by using hot soapy water and found myself scrubbing like F and as much as I love my bike I thought there must be an easier way. There was here are some pics of the process and by god was it a doddle. Especially the old Mr sheen shine lag that on leave to work it's magic and I swear just wipe the stubborn tar off.
It's nice when you can make such a difference to the bike without it costing any more than your own time.
Exactly that I have been looking at all the pics of people's bikes on here and have seen some really clean smart bikes and the exhausts themselves have set the bike off to a new level. So tomorrow I shall be sat outside in the sun (fingers crossed) Mr sheen in one hand brasso in the other polishing the rest of the pipes to see what results I get
Will be giving the ends of my Zard's a spring clean this next trip home too Also thinking of investing in a bench grinder and good quality mopping kit to do the full system next winter
Brasso might remove surface deposits but I doubt it will polish the stainless itself. It just isn't hard enough, as it is formulated to polish brass, which is a very soft metal. To get great results in polishing the stainless itself, get some Autoglym liquid metal polish from Halfords.
Couldn't agree more for the main stainless headers/pipes will be ordering various grades of cutting pastes to hopefully achieve a good finish.
I did mine today while waiting for my wheels to come back 1500 grade wet and dry and some autosol. Took a couple of hours. You would need different compounds and a mop for a mirror finish but I just wanted mine to look new again.
