Unhappy DVT this morn! Noticed serious lack of power issue on the ride into work today. Severely restricted throttle response above 4500rpm. Dealer says probably a stuck exhaust valve. Not great with only 4700 miles on the clock. Had engine management light come on recently and advised to blip above 6000 rpm to clear suspected muck out of engine. That seemed to do the trick. She's also using more oil than I would expect. All a bit concerning....
The tyre guy commented on how rusty mine was when he took the exhaust off. Going to give mine a good clean/lube over Easter weekend.
If it is the same as on my 848 then I am not sure if lube is the answer, it will get far too hot for anything other than some sort of MSO2 dry film or maybe copper film. I would imagine that most oils and greases would either burn off or turn to glue at those temperatures. I removed the control motor on mine and wire locked the valve open.
I've got the Duc-EE eliminator on my 2010 multi. Definitely louder running and mine was rusty as hell.
They're a terrible design and always have been, it's not that other manufacturers exhaust valves don't eventually rust but the Ducati ones barely last a few months.
Had issues with mine lack of power, management light coming on , replaced under warranty. Have done 12000 miles but new one looks off dvt mines 2011.
I bought a Duc.ee for my DVT in preparation for the Mivv Suono exhaust I've ordered, but it looks very difficult to access the exhaust valve motor. The FSM says to remove the entire exhaust. The first step of removing the exhaust is to remove the rear subframe... The motor seems to be located to the right of the rear cylinder exhaust pipe(looking at it from the rear of the bike) between the swingarm, rear subframe, and engine. I can feel one bolt, but the rear exhaust pipe must be in the way of the other two. I thought it would be a 20 minute job, but it's going to take some effort. I figure I'll get the entire exhaust ceramic coated once I get it out of there.
I haven't bothered taking the motor out yet, just plugged in the Duc.ee to disable it. The valve defaults to open so disabling it works fine. I just unplugged it and turned the bike on to see that I'd got the right connector (it gave the valve error)
Still as painful as the pre-DVT then? Mine lasts about 2 days before an error if I don't ride it. I can either have it stuck and not getting any performance OR I can strip it and free it up and get the EXVL warning on the dash. Pile of junk
oh Shit! may be thats why i lost power and the bike rattles like a tracktor! i am going to take it apart and look. Thanks guys , i though this will be the only issue i am noticing some losing of power
Mine has just seized f for the second time after 1100 miles. Losing confidence in the bike, wish I'd bought s1000xr. Was put off that by the vibrations.
I'm testing the XR and GS Saturday morning. Love riding my DVT but I am losing some faith in it. I know the BM's also have problems, but it seems that every DVT has at least a few issues.
I know what you mean. I've been looking at the BMW again on the website, and thinking I'll give the MTS until the end of the year. But i've got a trip planned to Spain and worry that it'll go wrong whilst out there.
I've got a week abroad (or Scotland if weather's good) in June. It is a worry. I can't see BMW offering me what I want, but you never know....
I wouldn't be too sure, the XR (touch wood) hasn't got anywhere near the level of issues as the dvt, not by a long shot. Saying that it depends what you want. If you want something that feels a little lazy then it's not going to be the right bike, it's actually more in line with the original 1200 multistrada for sportier natured rides than the dvt. Looks are always subjective but the multi is no looker either, what I will say though is don't over think this rubbish about vibrations etc It's an L4 so vibrates in a different manner to a ducati, but my Mrs found more vibration as a pillion from dvt than she did from the XR, go figure. If you happen to be somebody who does feel tingling from the bars it's a £40 pair of bar ends and problem solved. I'm not knocking ducati, and frankly I kinda wished I'd never sold my 1200s multistrada 2012 to some degree. But ultimately the XR wipes the floor with the dvt in performance and handling, honestly it's just cut and dried. For me it's far more sportier which suits what I want, it makes the dvt feel a little short and fat in comparison
Thanks for that. I'm actually leaning more towards the GS enduro. If I can live with the power loss, I much prefer the looks to the XR, and the shaft is quite appealing. I'll find out tomorrow
