Ok,My 04 Multistrada has been in the garage for the winter.Tried to start her and the engined turned over a few times before slowing right down. So charged the battery and same thing-turns over a few times and slows right down. Plugs are wet so that tells me the fuel pump is working Took one plug out of each to check for a spark-It sparked but not as much as I thought it would. One thing to mention-I notice the positive battery cable is getting warm (I have removed and cleaned the earth and starter motor cable) I'm at a bit of a loss as to what may be the problem. Any clues???
sounds familiar. no matter what, you are gonna need new cables. don't wast anytime just buy them from @Exige. there is two relays beside the battery. don't waist any time just replace them. standard items any motor factor will keep em. there is a pish earth point for the main earth lead on the left hand casing. if you can get it out replace it with a decent bolt. replace all those three problem points regardless. maybe a new battery to. mine had an intermittent non start fault (no spark during cranking) which took a new starter to resolve. lift the rear, take out the plugs slip it in to gear, get a mate to turn the rear wheel by hand (easy) and see how good the spark is now. replace the other parts i mentioned no matter what. do the relays every other year. or carry spares.
Hi thanks for replying-I've cleaned and changed the earth cable bolt but the battery cables on mine seem to be spliced to other wires-how do you go about changing them?? And the two relays you mentioned-where exactly am i looking-any help is much appreciated.
piggy back the earthlead. the short one to the starter solenoid and from the solenoid to starter just replace. the two relays are next to the fuses and battery.
i replaced the starter to cure the intermittent non spark. i renewed the leads later for exact fit cables. they gave a massive improvement to cranking speed. worth every penny.
Hi,found replacement relays on fleabay for £1 each -I'll need to save my pocket money for the cables. Thanks for the advice-Priceless stuff.
Ok so Motobatt battery arrived, after a 10 min charge it was ready to go.Not received the relays yet so swapped them round each time I cranked the engine=Engine turning over much faster and stronger than before but not firing at all.Gave the spark plug test ago but now I'm getting no spark at all.Plugs are wet with fuel. Its definately not the fuel because it was running no more than month ago.Btw I do seem to remember the yellow engine light coming on ,I did the error code check on the LCD but no code . I'm feeling like a dog with no legs ... Completely stumped Help again please
have you tried checking for spark with plugs removed by slipping it in to gear and turning rear wheel? bearing in mind the relays are just switches can you bridge the two large terminals where the relays plug in? check the connection for rpm/tdc sensor while your at it
SHE RIDES !!! Yass got it going-Thanks so much everyone and special thanks to FINM !!! 1 bottle of bucky on its way!! So you're probably wondering...O.K. took the crank sensor out and noticed it had 2 shims-removed 1,turned engine over slowly with plugs out ,no contact on the sensor-so thought why not-and it fired right up.I'll need to test it through the rev range on the weekend but hopefully should be ok. Thanks again
