......none of them know anything about rudiments and proper fills........just watch Buddy Rich....any example. And, listen to Ginger Baker on this one ....get halfway through for the best....Ginger Baker's Air Force - Do What You Like - YouTube AL
a whole new world of shit has to be the girl from the Coors (who never plays live at the drumstool btw)..just do a youtube search, all elbows and bouncing shoulders, no stick control, in fact im not even going to bother going on because im probably talking to myself. if you want to watch what a real drummer can do-musicality, subtley, power, groove, control, speed, technique, precision, meters, displacement-everything then you simply have to check out the likes of Dave weckyl, vinnie colouita, omar hakim, marvin smith to name a few. if you want to be amazed by a single man band using triggers and samples then no one can surpass akira jimbo (mission impossible and james bond are probably his most famous) do a youtube search of a few of these names if youre not familiar with their material. (vinnie played on most of the sting albums) these guys have done it all in their careers and played in every musical style from jazz, metal prog rock and everything in between.
heres a little vid of Dave weckl from the Vic Firth master series...its a solo demo, but theres hundreds of vids of him online playing afro cuban, jazz, fusion, everything. as with all the masters there is no single performance that defines everything they can do-their rep is too big, but in this video Weckl playes virtually every drum technique with such control it beggars belief...left handed rolls, very quiet lighting fast fills, loud fills, snare work, everything. watch weckl then go back to bonehead or whoever this weeks hero from oasis or whatever is flavour of the month.
I`m sure we all agree that real talent only occasionally results in huge comercial success or popularity. No point getting upset about it and secretly some of us are delighted that our personnal faves are not too mainstream, bit like Ducati really. In the meantime as the Jam said, The Public Wants What The Public Gets.
No you aren't...........although I had already formed the impression that drumming was going to sh*t through the late 80s, it was seeing her that finally drove the nail home...........in fact I have wondered if she can actually play at all..... AL
Assuming you mean Lowell Dunbar and not Aynsley Dunbar, any drummer that can play reggae properly is pretty damn good.......there much more to reggae than just rimshots and an undampened snare.... AL And for someone you didn't even know existed.......

Performance Spotlight: Dave Weckl - YouTube
weckl, colauita, gadd drum battle at the buddy rich memorial concert (the front row is full of world famous drummers such as ringo starr..i don think they wanted to take part!) Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd - Buddy Rich: drums - YouTube the unbelievable marvin smitty smith session player extraordinaire..the speed and power of marvin s world renowned as he duels rock legend steve smith. Steve plays out of his skin on this show but cant match smittys ridiculous prowess.. Marvin "Smitty" Smith and Steve Smith - Drum Solo Duet (HQ) - YouTube but apparently this is the best drummer in the world..? go figure Dave Grohl - Best Drummer in the World Tribute - YouTube even better than John Bon-ham.. its like watching a child play after seeing a pro.
There are plenty who play the guitar well but to my ears No1 is Dave Gilmour. As for drummers you lot are well gay,I really like Phil Collins. You may not agree but that just means you re wrong.
Aye, I'm an early Collins fan as well, don't care if it's not popular, I hadn't seen those guys Funky posted and yes they are technically brilliant, but to me it's about how any drummer/guitarist piece of music makes you feel. A little something from Lifeson Peart and Lee
I'm not offended if you like Phil Collins.........I guess you probably liked Jim'll Fix It as well........everyone to their own taste, I say...... Both were cr*p IMO AL
Collins did some vaguely interesting stuff with Brand X in the late '70s / early 80's, but if you look at the way Genesis evolved after Gabriel left, I have to believe that it was largely his influence that turned them into a band producing poppy pap. In terms of drummers, the best quote I can recall (although I can't remember who first said it) is that "Ringo Starr is not even the best drummer in the Beatles"!!!
