i notice that my engine temperature varies a lot, usually between 70 C and even over 100 C on an exceptionally hot day a week ago, is this common ? My old bmw F800 temp guage went half way and never fluctuated.
Rode a demo this week, hottest day since the dinosaurs ruled! Runs a good 15+ deg cooler than a 1199, about 5+ deg cooler than a Diavel. I was impressed
Stuck in traffic the temperature can go above 103 degrees. Then the fans cut in and bring it back down to 99 degrees or so. No problem, except very warm knees.
hi mate, big shout messaging on here but I've got a fault i think, my temp keeps dropping down to 55'c when riding. i personally think its low. and thoughts?
Possibly a 'stat gone bad and stuck open. Either that or your sender unit has malfunctioned. Maybe worth starting a new thread though.
I think that's a bit too low, and I think you've got a fault. If you start the bike and leave it stationary with the engine running for 10 minutes or so, what happens? Temp should rise gradually until 103 degrees, then the fans should cut in. If the fans are on all the time ... well they shouldn't be.
Hi mate, rises gradually to 103 fan kicks in as normal, when i start riding its drops fast down, lowest today was 58 degrees so I just went back home. Called ducati and they said there computor is down, i oersonally thing they f*#king me about.
As suggested in post #10, this sounds like a thermostat stuck open. On a DVT the thermostat (part no. 55340041A) is mounted on the left side of the bike near the top of the radiator, where the coolant pipes from the front and rear cylinder heads join. Worth a try, anyway.
If you can get your hand to a hose on the rad side of the thermostat this shouldn't get warm, well significantly cooler than on the other side, when starting from cold until the bike is up to temperature. If both sides of the 'stat warm up at the same time it's stuck open and needs changing. Stuck in traffic or at a standstill the 'stat is going to be fully open anyway so in those situations the bike will behave as normal with the fan keeping things in check. On the open road, and especially when the ambient temperature is colder, the wind though the rad will bring the temperature of the coolant down to a point where the 'stat comes into play. With it stuck open that doesn't happen and you get abnormally low coolant temperatures. That's my theory anyway
