There seems to be a lot, of confusion with this across multiple forums with different values all over the place with people quoting clearances from engines such as desmoquadros ect. All I'm after is the valve clearances for a 2011 848 EVO I can't find anything recurrent enough to trust I have a workshop manual stating Opening rocker arm - intake 0.13 to 0.18 mm 0.10 to 0.25 mm Opening rocker arm - exhaust 0.13 to 0.18 mm 0.10 to 0.25 mm Closing rocker arm - intake 0.05 to 0.10 mm 0.05 to 0.25 mm Closing rocker arm - exhaust 0.05 to 0.10 mm 0.05 to 0.25 mm The far right column I believe is the checking clearance, could anyone elaborate on this, i did think it may be the combined gap as per 2V engines however the testa's arrangement don't allow for this from the looks of it. So please could anyone share, 848 EVO valve clearances or confirm the values i have are correct. And could anyone clarify the term 'Checking clearance'
The wider range is the 'acceptable' tolerance when in service and the narrower range the 'assembly' values. You really want to aim for the assembly values though.
Sorry mate, I've only for experience of older 2 valve and Desmoquattro engines. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to give advice or you could just contact your local dealer or someone like Rich at Louigi Moto who's always happy to share his knowledge.
Yep. They look correct. As mentioned above, the tighter tolerances are assembly and the second set are service values.
awesome thanks a lot guys I have one shim that is at the limit of the narrower clearance band, but I may as well do it while the head is off.
