Route Recommendations Zeebrugge To Salzburg

  1. So, looking for advice re the above
Have done Zeebrugge to Baden Baden day 1 and then day 2 to Weissespitze which was good as took in the black forest - second half worked out much better than the first.

This year going to stay at the Hotel Sonnelg late July and am looking to split the out and return into two bits each way with a stop in-between somewhere interesting for a visit and beers
Has anyone got a route recommendation primarily that as much as poss cuts out the massive tedium of motorway type roads?

    Thanks

  2. I think you're better off going straight to Baden-Baden; anything more interesting (and there's not much) is going to take a lot longer and the roads further east are better - spend more time there. The Mosel is nice & pretty around Luxembourg, the WW1 battlefields worth a visit, but I can't think of a decent route.

  3. Thanks
Have chosen to go via Worms staying over there one night the B500 and down past the lake SE then across to Alps so all should be good
I do find the European road classification confusing as makes no sense when compared to the Garmin routing

  4. The B500 now has a significant proportion at 50kph and is quite heavily policed, especially at weekends and can have plenty of tourists in coaches getting in the way.

Personally I prefer the Vosges to the Black Forest. The Route des CrĂȘtes is pretty spectacular though I accept that it's not quite going in the right direction for you. Would make a great diversion if you can spare the time and can incorporate it into your route.

  5. Last summer I rode from the Hook of Holland to Salzburg. My route was Hook - Rotterdam - Maastricht - Luxembourg - Trier(H) - Pirmasens - Landau - Pforzheim - Stuttgart(H) - Ulm - Dachau - Salzburg(H).
    (H) means stayed in a hotel. There are always motorway or non-motorway options, but the no-speed-limit Autobahns are quite tempting.
