I'm currently lapping at 1.54s around donington park is this a respectful time ? and which group would this place me in for trackdays as this was done on the elite fireblade course . I have purchased a ZX6r for trackdays and i and the instructor say i should be quicker on the 600 than the fireblade. I have to admit the power and laying it down exiting all corners is a little daunting , but i was told my cornerspeed is fast but exiting i was wary of the speed and its too much for me at the minute how many out there on trackdays use all what a 1000cc has to offer or have changed down and found themselves faster on a 600-750 as they aren't as brutal
To be honest I didn't fair well on the 600 I bought so went back to the blade /R1 That's not to say you won't as I know plenty of people that have made the switch and been fine. I'm fairly big so a 600 feels a little gutless to me and I quite like the power of a 1000
A lot of people will find themselves quicker on a 600 in terms of lap times as it's more manageable and friendly However a well peddled 600 won't be quicker than an equally well peddled blade.
Me for sure whilst learning to cycle :tearsofjoy: would benefit from a 600cc as the power is way too much for me on track and it takes alot of effort to get it turned in after the straights , that is not to say i wouldn't upgrade after a year or so learning and getting quicker
Is it right to feel absolutely knackered, legs and shoulders are hurting, from the sheer exertion of handling a bike on track
Yep, although the more you do the more those muscles will get used to it. It's just stuff your body needs to get accustomed to that's all
I regularly do euro trackdays which entail 3 or 4 straight days in a row. I'm often astonished as to how many people are shagged after 2 days and barely go out again. What a waste of money! I'd say achieve a decent level of fitness before you go (and I'm not talking SAS selection) in order to enjoy what you've paid for!
just trying to stop and turn a bike that wants to go straight is hardwork + i felt relaxed no tension through the bars when cornering
I've just gone to a 675 after my 1000k5 and personally my lap times are dropping, however this is probably down to track time and track training (Well worth the money), although the 675 is an awesome piece of kit. I went from 2.00 to 1.51 on the K5 at Doni (Inters) and last week managed to hit low 1.47's on the 675 (Constantly under 1.49)......but still need to pedal faster!!! 1000 - point and shoot 600 - need to carry that speed more What I did notice on the TSL timings for NL 600 & 1000 novice races the 600's had a 10+ riders doing 1.39 - 1.42's, 1000 only had a couple. Either way your doing good times and they will drop and a quick lap will feel slow.......I'm told! Never done one
1:54's a decent time for first time at Donnington, which on most normal track days, would put you upper inters. Some of the top end fast group guys are doing mid 1:30's From my limited experience, inters pace there is somewhere between 1:50 and 2:15 Donnington has a couple of nice long straights where a litre bike will make up most of the weight short comings in corners (if you find that an issue). I find on my ZX6R 600 there, that out of coppices and goddards, I'm getting dropped by litre bikes as soon as the traction lets full power get used and the faster ones (normally S1000RR, ZX10 1299's etc) are putting a good couple of seconds on me before you're rolling off for the next corner (this might be me being a pussy on the throttle though too) I think the BSB guys are doing circa 1:30 there, and super stock 1000's a couple of seconds slower
I'd say inters. Hit 1:50 then quick group. Don't balk at the quick group. It's fine and you'll learn by following guys who are just a bit quicker. The comment regarding a 675 is a good shout. And try not to hang on too much. Is quicker when you relax and let the bike move under you.
