Since I bought my MTS I was eager to make something for it. Actually, I've some possibilities thanks to my business. At first, I decided to protect the front head of engine. This protection made from thin stainless steel (300 micron, or 0.3 mm) by the method of electrochemical engraving and finished manually with satin polishing. The such method like we use in production of VIP business cards: Business cards from stainless steel Yes, I could buy something on ebay, but without my nick. Man with wings is the logo of the other my business. Icarus who point the place of your vehicle on a map (GPS fleet management). Before the sun kills him Unfortunately, all experiments with radiator protection was not yet succesful. Maybe later...
Company name is "Locarus": synthesized from "LOCation" and "iCARUS" Also "RUSsia" and "CAR". Thank God we haven't deal with spanish-speaking customers. Associatings with "Locuras" is not so good for business
Looks like you need thicker steel & a larger shield design. Still nice to have your online name displayed
Well, here is second series. When my wife said me that she is afraid of that damned emptiness behind I started thinking about backrest. But all gadgets that I could find on ebay were so ugly that I can't imagine how it possible to set them on the italian bike. So I decide to make a my own. I designed the method of the fast fitting with R-clips. Then I drew the drawings of the details for hydro abrasive cutting. Found the guys who made the cover for cushion and a polymer paint works. Here you can see what I have had at the end. I can set it on and off for few seconds. When the base plate is bolted on, it is not spoil the exterior, so as the backrest at all. Tube at rear side can be used for rear action camera.
I have seen back rests and even seen a fellow multi with one on but they look crap. Yours at least looks the part. If it's a girl you're carrying though you will have to put the top box on so they have somewhere to put all their crap Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Problem of my perception is that the top box I also don't like. I understand that when I go in long journey I must have maximum volume for rags. And, in a city traffic side bags are also not smart solution. But when we ride in weekend in a one-day journey without all her shoes... Why shall I have to spoil the exterior and the aerodynamics? Sure, my anxious thoughts not stop. Now I want to lighten the weight of frame and change the contour of a cushion. I think that the form of sissy-bar is not match to a modern bike. But main idea of fast setting with R-clips is very smart. It is really fast and really strong. I don't understand why nobody not used it earlier on motorcycles.
Actually it's the problem. I exactly wanted to provide well-looking exterior of the bike. Sorry but I'm not a designer I gonna work further and make it quite nice-looking. Will be glad to hear all your wishes.
I've spent all my working life in design of one form or another. Can I suggest you turn it around. Think of the design shape of a deep water dam. This is a very rough drawing of what I mean. Sorry but it's using a very clumsy App on my iPad but it gives you the idea. The red is just so you can see it properly...but it might work. It cold do with something that follows the lines of the bike but that'll take a bit more work. What do you think? I think you've done a very nice job on it though. Good work, good production too. Oh yeah, as you said, maybe slim down the padding in the backrest. Hope it helps.
Out of interest, what app did you use for this? I ask because I want to do some sketches for something else and this could work really well. Thanks.
One man from russian Ducati forum asked me for a stainless steel plates for Scrambler of his wife. He wants to glue them on the leather pads on the tank. It is not flexible cold-rolled japanese steel like on business cards, but an ordinary austenite stainless steel, .3 mm thick. For better fitting on a curved surface.
