So im in the process of rebuilding my track 749s after a big spill about 2 years ago. Ive just had the front wheel to fit new brembo hpk discs , gone to refit the wheel following the intruction to realign the axle, then gone to refit the (non-radial) calipers and relise the bottoms of the calipers seems to be touching the discs .the discs are correct fitment and width .it just doesnt seem to fit right. like its all pissed still? Keep scratching my head wondering what ive done wrong? Is there a jedi trick to fitting the front wheel correctly ??
Are you sure that the new disc is a 330mm, compared to the older 320mm versions? If so then there is your problem
Around the brake pads are little guides . The 4 on the top pads seem to fit fine but around the bottom pad the guides are pushed up against the disk
Are the pads correctly fitted? Have you possibly got two pads on one side of the disc? Do the calipers fit correctly with no pads installed? Have you got the wheel spindle spacers correctly installed?
Yes, your axle is not fitted correctly, you need to square it up, do this by loosening the axle pinch bolts then gently squeeze the front brake until the forks align with the brake pads then nip it up and spin it again to make sure then tighten
Just got i from a cold garage. Love working on this bike sometimes , give it another go tomorrow. Everything on the front brake system is brand new bar the calipers. Have to plumb it all together soon and have another go
Do you have some more pics ? - Calipers mounted in place. - Axle in place. - One showing the whole disc, axle bolt, caliper etc. So the calipers are not upright when mounted with no pads?
The forks havent been removed, the only thing i can think is the forks are slight twisting when on the front stand. Both sides are the same . Would be alot easier if i could use my yoke stand except ducati didn't bless me with a hole to stick it in. Ill get some more pics up later
I would have thought once you had the axle bolt in place it should all be pretty much square even with the fork leg clamps loose. Have you tried putting the old discs back on just to double check? (One side would do to try)
Don't you usually have to bounce the forks up and down a few times with the pinch bolts loose in order to align them and then nip the pinch bolts up?
My guess would be you'd tightened the right forks' pinchbolts before tightening the axle, thereby dragging it in slightly, the left leg can't move because the spacer keeps it in the right place. As has been said loosen the pinchbolts fully get it on the deck squeeze your brakes and bounce up & down on it, should settle out.
If the axle bolt is in place I doubt there would be enough play to make the caliper slot not be parallel to the disc face.
