That frame has been painted and the swing arm added at a later date IMO - all original black swing arm models came with Magnesium Cam Covers. I believe from 2005 onwards - so first would have been around Oct 2004 for MY05.
Agreed. The bike on the link also has the old model side fairings which were used with the grey swingarm only. Edit: I believe pretty much all 2004 models had the updated swingarm, red frame, mag valve covers and carbon belt covers.
I've seen a Fila 999R (Reg May 2005) with red frame/Black SA and old vented fairing..Is this correct?
All 200 Fila's were 2003 or early 2004 build with the Gen 1 Body Work and Engine spec. Check the build date on the Plaque - it will tell you the month and year. Some had Grey Swing Arms and Ally Cam Covers, Most had black swing arms and Magnesium Cam Covers (optional extra's at the time) - these were the only differences. Are you looking at buying Does it have a plaque with it - I currently own a Fila R with plaque, but also have 11 of the other 200 plaques in my possession :Angelic:
Yes was looking to buy..... The one I've seen doesnt have the gold looking cam covers.. I take it they are the mag ones that are gold and the silver ones are alloy? How can you tell? and is the Plaque the badge on the top triple tree yoke?
I have never seen one with the black swing arm without magnesium cam covers and I have seen many over the last few years on Google Images and for sale all over the world - I think the option was together. It has probably had a black swing arm fitted later but not the cam covers. The cam covers are magnesium but again there are many copies having been painted - there is even someone selling newly painted ones on USA Ebay. If you want any private advice pm me - (in case you think someone will gazump you to the deal). My mate has just bought a 1500 mile example 3 months or so ago. When he was looking I checked one out for him via photo's that had several anomalies.
2003 Fila R has the grey swingarm, aluminium valve covers, plastic belt covers and older "thick spoke" forged wheels. 2004 Fila R has the black swingarm, magnesium valve covers, carbon belt covers and newer "thin spoke" forged wheels. 2004 models were still sold new in 2005 as well.
