748

  1. Hi all, just bought me a 748 sp, imported from England to Sweden. Been standing in a garage for eight years until i bought it last month. A wellrenommed mechanic put on new cambelts, i changed oil, plugs and filter and it seemd to worked fine...until..

  2. When i got it home i carefully took it out on the road, after 200 km i started to push it at little, rewed it up to 7-8000 rpm and it suddenly switched off (warm motor). That happend all the time, and the recommendation i got from the garage was to change fuelfilter, which i did. After the swap i went out riding and everything seemed to be fine until i rewed it up, it died but returned. Now it had a new issue, it goes rough and not under 2000 rpm at all. It feels like a moped with carburatorproblem...

  3. check crank sensor i had the same problem, when it got warm started to play about. or could be the throttle position sensor that will give those symptons.

  4. Thanks a lot cookster, great!
To continue; All the electric seems to work, no problem with lights etc, i changed the sparkplugs and checked the gap. The bike runned superb when i collected it from the garage but it was when i pushed it (and it was warm) over 7000 i noticed the problem, it was almost like switch off the engine but it came alive directly, after a few incidents the problem got worse and now it's not even runs om idle, just dies if i don't keep it over 2500 revs. Almost like it only runs on one cylinder. I disconnect the battery but still no "healing". The fuelfilter was mounted ok and no leakage.

I dont know about the ecu but it sound strange if the problem gets worse because a faulty ecu.

If the cambelt was mounted incorrectly the problem shouldnt' change character?

How do i check the sensors? And now it does'nt matter if it's cold or warm, runs like crap.

    Sorry for mispelling etc.

  5. hello and welcome dude..
this problem sounds similar to one i had with my 748, which turned out to be the TPS. dont know how you check the sensor but if you can, i'd say pop it to someone how knows his way around a duke and they will probably diagnose pretty quickly. i remember the tps fix wasn't a great expence...
dont let it put you off though mate as when its running right you will have a blast!
    and put some pics up!!!

  6. You can check with a multi meter but that's about it. Mine was proberly a guess as I'd done everything else. Have your throttle bodies been balanced?? It's hard to diagnose these things with out hearing the bike.or unless you have a miss fire ? Like one of the coils breaking down maybe??

  7. After the cambelt change i drove it for 300 km, it was only the last 100 km i noticed it didnt work properly, it was first then i rewed it up beyond 7000 and it cut off. The last 20 km the another problem occured, it died when idled, runs very rough and poor. I'll have it towed to the garage tomorrow, the same garage that changed belts...Thanks for your help. Personnaly i think the ecu/tps are ok, that based on the fact that the problem changed character. Cranksensor that broke? Maybe the beltchange? But then it wouldn't change character either? I sold my wellfunctional aprilla mille for this...not good

  8. hopefully its nothing too serious dude.. keep us posted as to the out come. and put some pics up!:upyeah:

  9. Welcome Dave

  10. That it happened after the belt change is worrying. Really hope it's not due to contact between valves and pistons...

  11. Yeah oldrider, it's a bit worrying but i keep my fingers crossed....

  12. this also loosely fits symptoms for fractured hose within fuel tank. There are several threads on here already covering this.

  13. Thanks, i changed the fuelfilter and cleaned the petrolpump but that didnt help.. Now Its parked at the garage but they are busy for the moment... I guess i have to wait but the westhercondition are so tempting right now

  18. Hi Claes,
sorry to hear about your issue with the bike. I am based part-time in Gothenburg so if I can be any help let me know. I had a similar problem with my old 998R - turned it out that it was a faulty relay. Because they're positioned low down they often get corroded by water and road salt. I have loads of spare parts for 748-916 so if you need anything let me know.
    Tom.

  19. Great Tom, thanks a lot, very kind of you. The garage will pass the verdict this week... A faulty relay is possible at the beginning but the problem changed character and it feels like something is wrong with the ignition or fuelsupply. Claes

  20. Tom, have you visited Biscaya motors in Alingsås? Nice shop and surroundings if youre in the area
