749 Oil Leak From Clutch Cover

  1. during a trackday at oulton park this sat I noticed a small oil leak coming from the bottom of my clutch cover not a very large leak but wanting to get it sorted before it gets worse does anyone know how big a job this is to do and what it may be that is leaking!? Many thanks

  2. Usually one of two things. There's a small seal around the pushrod and a large seal around the flange the basket bolts to. Oil running out the bottom of the cover usually means it's the large seal.
It's easiest to change it by pulling the clutch casing off but can be done in situ.
pull the pressure plate off first to check if the small seal has failed. If it has, the back of the plate will have oil on it. If it's dry, then you should see oil running from behind the basket.
You need a holding tool for the drum, then whip the basket off.
You can get the old seal out in situ using self tappers into the seal face and pulling/levering it out. Tap the new seal back in place but be careful going over the flange with the seal ID. If you're not sure, pull the clutch casing and replace the seal that way.....by the book ;)
