hi wondering if someone can point me in the right direction as to best friction plates for my trackday 749
All I can say is that my originals lasted 12k, my £60 newfrens about 4k, cant remember last set, came in proper black plastic box and everything, still going strong
I've heard a lot of talk about various different makes over the years, but my OEM plates have always been fine and I've never been inclined to try anything different.
ive just fitted the Barnett clutch plate kit but not had a chance to try it out yet, certainly looks a quality bit of kit,
On 5 Ducati's in 18 years (still got 4 of them), I have never needed to buy any new friction plates. All are oem. Never had any issues, road or track. Just keep the clutch clean and lubed (slipper) and all is fine.
Wow, I'm amazed. I know the friction surfaces will last for ages but the friction plate tangs usually bash themselves against the basket slots until the chatter gets so bad you have to replace them. How are you avoiding that?
Every time my clutch starts to feel a bit iffy...I buy another bike with lower mileage and a good set of plates!! Simples! R
Having now got a 900ss with dry clutch, I was thinking I would change the clutch plates. They look worn and I cannot adjust the clutch lever to be nearer the bar. What do I need if I make the change? It's not slipping so may not be necessary.
They don't have much meat on the friction plates to start with. It's rarely the lack of friction material that prompts the need to change, it's almost invariably wear between friction plate tabs and basket. Does your clutch make an enormous racket when trickling along on a neutral throttle, as well as when idling out of gear?
Could be that new plates aren't that urgent then... If it's noisy at idle and you're not hearing that as music, you could try the quiet clutch mod, like @andyt749 and me
have you got a clutch lever with a four position adjuster on it? I am guessing you have already tried this. Introducing slightly more play at the pushrod via the scew in the standard lever will also bring the lever near the bar but this always needs to be adjusted when the engine is hot.
Had the clutch basket oil seal go so friction plates have been slightly contaminated with oil and there is barely any meat left on them so time for a change
