Ok I wouldn't normally do this but as it's attracted some interest i'll post his reply to me saying for the 2nd time something along the lines of "this isn't a 1000SS etc"...it's a tired resprayed 750/900 with very bad exhaust pipes My name is Stephen Auty btw. Is that Mr Auty again? like I told you last time, its a 1000SSFF stated on the log book, OBVIOUSLY it has had the fairing changed. The frame number is from the factory as a 1000SS which DUCATI UK have confirmed, it has the rare single spark 1000 engine, its not a DS as that stands for DUAL SPARK. So your estimation of it being "no way a 1000" I can assure you (again) is wrong. This bike is a very rare in-between-model bike, Ian Falloon has even written about what happened with these. A mint low mileage 900ss often sells for £3500 on ebay, so £4500 for an extrememly rare low mileage 1000ss isnt unreasonable. I've already been contacted by some collectors who know how rare it is. Sounds convincing doesn't it, i think he genuinely thinks it is a "rare" bike, meaning there is only one of them in the whole world.
If the guy needs to try and justify the price, even though theres shedloads wrong with it I cannot see how hes gonna get the money he wants unless one of these 'collectors" has more money than Ducati sense. I'm really longing for a 1000SS, might just have to sort some savings....
If a Ducati SS owner doesn't know the difference between FF and HF; that should tell you something..... ....'G' is missing..........
You can have my ultra rare one-off factory prototype single spark 1100 for £6500 if you like. I paid at least triple this for it. It features in page 12350 of Faloon's guide. Here it is, if you are interested pm me with your bank login details so I can transfer the cash for you.
That's a CX500 DesmoSportoEuro SSS ..they all had single spark..can't fool me with all that jibber jabber Seriously though , that looks like it can move..1100? Is that from the monster/multistrada? Single Spark Special?
From the Monster, but with the same loom, ecu and injectors from the 900. Superbike riders think it is not very fast (predictable lot)...I think it is too fast for me and am thinking of getting an RVF400!
I think my 1000s SS is fast and it is...your's must be even quicker. They aren't fast like a 4cyl Japanese sports bike is but they just seem to surge forwards very hard and with very little fuss (no revs)..crackin bikes. I guy near here races 400's , must be fantastic fun and relatively cheap, i think he uses a Honda CBR? stripped right down to the bear essentials.
Indeed, I went to the Nurburgring last year with 2 mates on Blades. it took them to the third corner before they lost me. It is deceptively quick, and I am constantly reminded of this with the head shakes on bumpy roads and wheel lift on anything but the flattest of surface!
Down to £4500...that's a fairly impressive drop of £50 since listing......won't be long before it settles at its true market value of around £1500. 2003 DUCATI 1000 1000ss SS FF SILVER Low mileage Super Sport 900ss Update Classic Collectable | Plymouth, Devon | Gumtree I'd like to sympathise with him for having a supposedly rare machine. It is listed here: Ducati 1000 SS FF - How Many Left? Unfortunately, this also leaves question marks, as the 1000DS is not listed, so this might actually be the 1000DS. And if it is, where does this leave his claim that there are less than 50 left? Either this version or the 1000DS are not listed. But a failure to explain why it looks like an HF and a failure to explain why it is an in-between bike when you can get a DS1000 on an 02 plate makes me wonder if he is a blagger. If the bike is rare, it doesn't matter. The IE is not iconic enough. The first version to rise in value will be the 1000DS. In particular, the red-framed version in UK is very hard to find. This rise will be mainly because it has the ohlins, big swingarm and 5 spoke Marchesinis, which make the bike look quite a bit better. I also get a bit put off by people trying to sell stuff on line and then finish off with an aggressive / arrogant line about time wasters. "no test pilots" " no tyre kickers" etc....
I couldn't find a single reference anywhere to Ducati making a 992 engine with a single spark head.. I think it's a tired 900 in a dubious colour with dreadful tailpipes and probably clocked at some point in it's dodgy life. Even if it's not and it is this mega rare bike from Ducati, it's not worth anymore than a 900, it has all the 900 stuff on it, like you said, the 1000DS SS has some nice parts on it. BTW..test rode the new Thruxton R yesterday...very nice bike but worth all the hype? maybe. It was raining hard so I couldn't push it.
Re The 1000SS FF with stupid pipes etc on eBay and some dodgy geezer trying his hardest to make the impossible believable. I PM'd Ian Falloon on Facebook and he confirmed that Ducati categorically did not make a such a bike. The whole lot could be a 900 as the 900 Sport cheap versions with that fairing, non adjust front suspension, cheaper clipons and steel swing-arm were plentiful (And cheap). Also if you tell DVLA your engine is now 992cc they will happily update the V5 and return it. Strange but true, I am now getting older and many years ago as a callow youth I put a GT550 motor into my blown up GT380 - I duly told DVLC (as they were then) and they sent me a V5 saying my bike was 5,500cc - I don't know if it was my typo or theirs but this Ducati is a 900 - and the dregs of the barrel of last registered budget sports ones at that - value - £1,000 on a good day.
