Hi Guys I have a 1098s engine that has recently had a timing gear shaft bearing failure, the engine has been stripped right down to its component form by a Main dealer they have quoted a uneconomical repair bill I know my way round a engine but as I didn't strip it down and not that experienced with Ducati's I need to find someone who's been there and done it . So what I am looking for is a second opinion on what parts are actually essential to get the engine up and working and a labour quote to rebuild , I am not looking to cut corners but in the same vain I’m not looking to chuck is brand new parts where maybe the old parts can be dressed up or possibly replaced with second hand parts . At the end of the day it is a 10,000 mile 7 year old bike that’s in nice condition but far from mint. Id sooner not break it but that seems the only option right now, the engine is in three boxes I live in Swindon so if you know or could recommend some one would be prepared to have a look I could get it to them near or far is fine. Will pay cash to help keep cost . I'm happy to pay a fair price for a fair job. Kind regards Matt
Give Rich a ring at Louigi Moto, he'll be able to either help or point you in the right direction I'm sure.
Al at ducati proteam, chatham, kent does that kind of work. Glen at motoV colchester would be worth a try also.
Ducati John did mine for a very reasonable sum. New main and crank bearings plus numerous small parts. Beware though engine parts are not cheap and they twice outweighed the cost of the labour involved on my rebuild.
+1 for Louigi Moto. Rich really knows his stuff and won't rip you off. He even let me strip most of my old ST4 engine down in his workshop to help keep the rebuild costs down. Top bloke.
I know a guy, very good and just starting on his own. I'll pm you his number, no idea where you are in comparison. He has been blueprinting engines for years reliably at main dealer.
