Multistrada On Tour

  1. I'm currently in Spain on my first tour with the bike and it's not been plain sailing :
    1. The rear mounting lug on my O/S pannier has just snapped off and I've not yet started to fix it
    2. I can't seem to alter the DSS setting so it sets the bike up for a rider + luggage
    3. On a couple of occasions when accelerating away from a 1st gear corner going uphill the engine has bogged down and the dash display has shown 2 bright orange lights before it clears itself and off we go again.
Any ideas/ suggestions that might help me out ?

  2. Orange lights at the top of the dash means traction control has kicked in, this will take over power of the engine & lower it momentarily till it feels traction is regained. Those plastic pannier lugs are fucking terrible design imho. DSS; tap down then tap/highlight & hold??

Images please of your tour :p

  3. Doh !! I'd forgotten about DTC so many thanks for that. Yes, the Givi designers dropped off on this occasion and both rear lugs have now gone but cable ties have come the rescue. I've certainly been trying all sorts of combinations of taps and sustained presses of buttons 1 2 and 4 but I'll give it another try. Many thanks for your help and I'll get some pics posted too

  4. Have a good trip.Dont forget, any rubbish that happens you will be able to laugh about years later ,down the pub.

  5. Under 10mph press and hold menu and i think it brings up preload settings. Or you can go into the master settings but that cant be done on the move

And yes, thats either dtc or anti wheelie depending if its a dvt model

  6. All is well and the 1200S DVT engine has just reached 2500kms and is run in to the recommendations. So, I gave it some gun today and at 7500rpm all hell broke loose !! I must look for roads with further visibility the next time I do that !!

  9. Is that the brand or peice of fruit? ;)

Shit I was giving OP instructions for single tapping menu for rider mode. To change luggage settings hold down bottom arrow, then tap it downwards till it highlights the one you want. Hold for two seconds & it will flash to show that on the dash. Enjoy

  10. Nice one !!
mmmm, I've tried all manner of things, including the sequence of button presses you've suggested but the DSS resolutely refuses to budge from the single rider setting. Ho hum. However, as I'm carrying less than 30kgs of luggage (plus the weight of the panniers and top box) I don't think it's essential that the setting is changed. We've now got close to our destination at Santiago de Compostela and the weather has improved markedly.

  11. I'd love to know how you used cable ties to secure your pannier - when mine broke off I tried straps but they just slipped off the rounded bottom of the pannier. I couldn't see any solution other than to leave it behind :(

  12. I used cable ties to secure the panniers' locking/folding carrying handles to the rear grab rails (see pic attached) Once the panniers are locked and the key is removed they're surprisingly solid

  13. I'll remember that method, although I hope to never (again) have to use it ;)

  14. Hi Guys,
Im away on a euro trip this coming Friday and I thought I would get the bike cleaned and fettled in readiness and decided to fit my panniers now (OEM Fitment) and guess what? Ive just snapped a lug off on the rear of the exhaust side pannier. Clearly a common problem and clearly a toss bit of design and build quality. Can you actually get replacement lugs from the dealer?
It still feels surprisingly solid mind but I think I may be adopting a "safety net"" in the form of cable ties if it cant be remedied in time.

    Cheers
    Tony

  15. It's a shite design, why could they not fabricated these out of alloy ! The trick is to put some Vaseline on the tabs to allow them to slide and you ideally need inner bags, take the bag out first otherwise with your stuff in the panniers they are liable to snap the plastic lugs.

  16. Do you know if you can buy replacement lugs Dave?

  17. Yes you can, how long it will take to get them maybe another problem.

  18. Will ring the dealer tomorrow.
Ive just dug out my trusty rok straps and can definitely effect a very tight safety strap carry on with them. Amazing bits of kit them ROK straps. I will update the thread tomorrow when Ive spoke to the dealer.

  19. Crisis averted!
Went to my local dealer, M&S in Newcastle Upon Tyne. By luck or fluke they had a replacement lug in stock. Part number 69812321A. £29.38.
They even fitted the lug for me as a favour.
Morale of the story is grease the female apertures and make sure the handle is upright on the panniers when fitting or removing but rest assured if you bust a lug YOU CAN buy replacements.

  20. I hope they haven't given you the one they were going to use to repair mine on Monday, getting panniers fixed, annual service, new tyres, new fuel sender ( D model already installed ), back down to work in Lincolnshire on Monday night, then on the ferry on Friday, to start the trip to Bormio in Italy. What can possibly go wrong
