Bit of a strange one, Bike went through MOT about 2 weeks ago everything well. Have noticed since that front brake lever isn't illuminating the brake light when applied. Anyone else came across this and is there a trial and error sequence I can follow when trying to find out what's wrong? Cheers
The front brake lever has a spigot/flange that operates a micro switch attached to the body of the master cylinder. Could be the spigot has fallen off, the switch could be duff or the switch cabling has been pulled. Andy
Was thinking the switch tbh, may start with that. The cable from the switch goes to a cluster of wires in front of tank which seems very tight and hard to get at without taking tank off
Had exactly this and posted same request. Derek on here recommended I wiggle the connector in front of the tank and hey presto! It's on the right side and is strapped to the top rail, no need to touch the tank at all.
I was thinking about posting the very same reply, but couldn't be bothered. The irony is that it's taken me longer to post this reply. :Meh:
No such luck I'm afraid. Wiggling didn't do it unfortunately. Not well versed on electrics so not sure what's happening. Indicators are presently disconnected, that wouldn't affect anything?
I pulled the connector apart and stuck it back together again several times, which must have removed any light tarnishing of the metal, which was preventing proper connection. Been working fine ever since - looks like I was lucky
I've applied SGM494 Silicone Grease to every connector on my bike. Prevents tarnishing and and was good for electrical connections 1000metres on the seabed offshore, so is quite water resistant! I'm finding the small details on these bikes goes a long way
The Usual suspect is the sticking micro switch on the brake lever pivot, happened to me a few times, pretty easy to disconnect and fit a new one, also cheap, if not that then I would go with the rest of the above posts and try the connector at the front of the tank on the right side ,disconnect and spray with elec cleaner, smear with some silicone grease before reconnecting...you have checked for the obvious blown bulb?
Yeah it's an integrated led stop / indicator light, all seems to be fine. Will replace the micro switch and go from there. Cheers for replies boys
