Hi there, I'm going with my son to watch MotoGP in Assen in month time, we are leaving on Saturday 25th June. Anyone is going too? Maybe we can ride together...
...if you're travelling via Hoek, head up North past Amsterdam and over the Afsluitingdijk (or whatever its called) and down via Gronnigen - much nicer (and police free) ride. ....and if on the overnighter to Hoek.......be careful with the drinking on board, Dutch police often pull all non-local riders/drivers in to a carpark about 500m out of the port for a swift breathalyzer test. Happened to me.......luckily was negative....but doesn't make a good start to the day.... other than that -enjoy! Although I don't know what party nigh is like in Assen now they've moved the race to a Sunday. Is it still on Friday...or moved to Saturday? Great fun (often have UK police patrolling the streets...not sure why). ......Dutch and German police also breathalyze on the circuit exits.....
I took that route over the Afsluitingdijk last year. It was a bit windy but worth doing. A few of us are going over from Hull on the Friday night. A bout 3 years back we got breathalysed getting off the ferry! They were taking keys off riders until they had sobered up. Luckily we had taken it steady the night before.
I was once breathalysed by the passport-checking guy at the exit of the Hook port, but sadly his machine broke down and wouldn't give a reading. Good advice though - don't booze on board the overnighter.
Thanks for advice, I will be riding with my son on the pillion so not much booze anyway, also we are taking longer route so only 30 minutes in the train- no overnight boarding.
