Bought a MultiStrada Gran Tourismo last year - last of the 14 models. Great deal from On Yer Bike Aylesbury. I complete an annual Europe trip and decided, after 20 years on Honda's, that the GT was perfect for me - very pleased with the bike Left last wednesday for a week touring the alps. Got you Dijon and heard a new noise from the engine. Limped into Dijon for overnight and luckily Ducati Dijon was close by. Got it to them first thing Thursday and the mechanic looked over the bike and pulled it straight into the workshop Drive belt tension was way out and this has now affected the drive sprocket and shaft - he informed me not the ride the bike as it could go pop anytime and this would likely to break the engine for good and throw me off. They needed 4 days to get parts and fix it I called Ducati Assist to recover the bike back to UK. Luckily Ducati Dijon were able to rent me a bike so I could carry on - but its not the same as your own. I left my bike at the dealer for recover and proceeded that afternoon HEAR THIS Later that afternoon Ducati Assist (AA) contacted me to tell me that I am not covered for recovery and would have to sort myself and the bike out. The reason is because I took it to a dealer and didn't park it up on the street!!! - the only option for me was to spend the next several hours contacting Ducati France, Italy and UK to get some help It took 2 days for the system to get UK to contact me, via email, and to tell me they are looking into it. Without any options or support I did get the bike recovered and myself home at my own cost. As of today - I am still told they are looking into it but can confirm that I am not covered for recovery from a dealer - the bike is one year old, suffered a major engine failure and covered by warranty - I am trying to claim costs back and to understand weather the Assist package is worthless I wait for Ducati to prove itself In hindsight and my advice to anyone who thinks they will help matters by getting a bike abroad to a dealer - don't - or at least push it back onto the road and call from there - just about the most ridiculous rule I have heard of Meanwhile my trusted Honda dealer is laughing his head off - "i told you you would end up broken down" I feel extremely frustrated and let down - BUYER BEWARE
I have to say I am not surprised........ My 1199 broke down only 20 miles from home and it took 6 hours of hanging around being swapped from different recovery firms that eventually sent a flat bed truck and had no way of strapping the bike down other than metal hooked chains. As the bike was only 4 weeks old you can imagine I was not that keen. In the end he was not allowed to take me home in his truck without the bike on board so I did what I should of done at the beginning and got a taxi home and recovered it in my own van. Fast forward 2 years and yet another new Ducati again broken down over 1 hour on hold with Ducati assist. Same again I got a taxi home and recovered it again myself.............. So from my experience is it worth it definitely NO.
sorry to hear about your ruined trip Paul without wanting to sound like your mother what did it say in the small print?
Hi Paul and welcome. Sorry to hear about your breakdown. My understanding is that the small print says that if you breakdown, the assist will move you from the point of breakdown to the nearest Ducati dealer. No more than that. It won't get you home. It certainly isn't like AA Five-star or Green Flag. It's a pain having to read through pages of terms and conditions, but that's what you have to do in order to fully understand what is being offered. If you have got yourself to a dealer under your own steam, there is nothing more for the assist to do. Its easy to say with experience, but always take out a separate accident & breakdown policy when travelling abroad.
You're right and that's their safeguard but I'm with Keith916 on this If it breaks they should recover it
No - june as my mate travelling with me on a GS said!! hi Been through the small print now which does cover recovery to uk from abroad if bike cant be fixed in 36hrs The msin issue is clearly that i wasnt road side - this is a technicality that they are using I have just pushed it back onto the road outside the dealer
