Hi There New to the forum and feeling a little guilty that my first post is a 'take' rather than a 'give' but guess that is how most join, needing help. I'm looking for a 749 either an S or an R and for me original condition and history is everything, I don't mind some of the 'recognised modifications' but would prefer the original parts included. Must have great history. Been checking **bay 88 Trader etc for a month or two with little success - anywhere else I should be looking? I rode a 749 for three days in the Alps on a Superbike tour and didn't want to give it back it has left a mark on me ever since and I have now saved the money to finally own one. Hope you can help..

What's your budget? If your after an S or an R there is a massive difference in price i.e. £3K to £4K for an S Vs £8K - £10K for an R. One of my customers from the Netherlands is selling a 749R soon. It is a genuine, nice bike but the service history has been lost - he is trying to find the service history proof from dealers before selling as he is the 3rd owner. Not sure what he's asking yet.
Thank you all for the replies Gumtree was a good steer, I had not thought of looking here - cheers Lots of bikes close to what I'm after but not quite hitting the mark (I know I'm fussy git). Budget is not the leading factor, I want to buy the best I can for the right money so that if/when I come to sell I hope not to loose too much, so I'm realistic and would go up to £10K for the right R, equaly would pay more than £5K for the right S (with all the right bits on) The Netherlands bike wouldn't be for me without history, but thanks. Can anyone advise or point me in the direction of differences in riding experience for Standard 749, S & R
I used to ride a 749S, now I have a R. They are worlds apart. The R is totally impractical in slow moving traffic low down in the rev range, get in the mid-range on an open road and all is forgiven. Its like a love hate relationship.
Thank you for the informed response I will be using the bike for pleasure and not commuting so lucky enough to pick my time, conditions and route so the slow moving won't be a serious issue. Aside from the running how do you rate the difference in general comfort, stiffness in the suspension etc?
dont worry,, or hurry, there are plenty of fussy gits on here,, i took months of studying the internet for specs , info etc and looking at many many before i found the one i wanted, but eventually found a beauty at the price i wanted ( which like you was not the gov factor, but was not in the 10k R league ) and got an totally unmarked S with full termignoni , full service and low mileage...and had to travel the length of britain to get it.. good luck,, be patient..
I saw this one and called within two hours of posting, spoke to the owner who seems genuine but the bike came from abroad where he worked and he 'bought it as art' to simply look at hence low miles, not registered in the UK no dealer history and cracked clocks so not for me. I think he would take an offer on it
