Hi and welcome. WOW! sums up the bike well. Love mine. Bought mine new last September and now clock up 3500 miles. So far mine has been 100% perfect, HOWEVER beware it is a bike which likes to be fettled. Keep it clean, protect with ACF50 and ride it, and hopefully you will have none of the problems. Touring mode is the best IMHO, if it wet and slippery Urban and if you have had a boring day and need waking up then Sport mode should do the trick. Out of all the biked I have had I think the Multi is the best, its comfy, you can doodle but when in the mood it sings.
Yeah its supremely comfortable riding position, perfect for me. Got some "sparkly bits" to put on it later this evening - HID upgrade and screen adjusters - hopefully my engine protection kit will be here by the weekend too. Just took all the luggage off and went for another spin to try out the sport mode now that I kinda understand the electronic gizmos a bit better. WOW again! It goes like a kicked cat LOL.
Hi n welcome I've been without mine for five weeks now and my god do I miss it!! Hopefully be back on the road for the weekend cnt wait, you bought the best colour despite what everyone else will tell you lol.... Make sure you keep the service up to date! Enjoy
Welcome and good choice. The ONLY thing you got wrong is the colour...everyone now knows the black one is the fastest! I came from Fireblade and GSRX background and have not missed either. You won't regret it.
No it isn't the RED one is everyone knows that, it's coz it's an Italian thing.... You know it makes sense
Got the HIDs all done and went for a ride this evening. That is certainly the best headlights I have had on a motorbike! Possibly better than our car. Really made a difference coming back home from a "spirited" ride from Salisbury plain along the B-roads. Nice bit of kit for an eBay purchase, no ignitors to hide away as built into the pretty slim ballast. Come on real quick too, no delay at all from switching. And they didn't stop some numpty pulling out in front of me and a Street Triple on the dual carriageway, have no clue what he was doing, pulled out to the overtake lane without warning with nothing in front of him at all at about 40 MPH. Think I am addicted to sport mode though, may have to take it easy as I am getting through the petrol LOL. The bike continues to inspire confidence and really glad I have done extra training to make the most of it, which largely went unused on my Kwak with it's sedate nature. Brakes are also pretty awesome, nearly missed a junction but pulled up nicely from speed and got a little ABS action going on Some minor niggles, they seem to have chucked some extra neutrals in the box which appear when you are down shifting for corners leading to the odd surprise coasting towards the hedge instead of engine braking!
Moo cow, you need to be positive with he gear changes, not just tickle the lever. If it still persists then consider having the box adjusted (not anengineout job, but done by dealer). The front brakes are good, but could begetter, especially when two up. That is why some of us have fitted monoblocs, which are, like the lights, money well spent. Have you Got a link to the hid units you fitted ? Mine have separate ballasts which make them slightly more challenging to fit (all details were on andys site, hope he can get them back...) Roll on summer eh
Will do John, just found those extra neutrals when I went a bit mental through some twisties to see how it held up. Link to the HIDS, they even came with a set of extension leads which give you some greater flexibility with mounting - I followed Andy's guide and more or less did the same as his with the 3M dual lock tape mounting them behind the front side outer fairing - really is about the only place with space. Then just tied up all the slack underneath the "glove box" and fuse box covers fixing them using a couple ties to original wires so that worst comes to worst they will not drop on the road if the sticky lets go! £110 for a pair. No problems with them so far and like said, they are instant switching between hi and low beam. Newer "anti dazzle" reflector bulbs and seem to be non-annoying to other road users. They also have waterproofed connectors on all extensions though mine are mainly hidden under the panels anyway. Ducati Multistrada Canbus 1200S Xenon Hid Headlamp Conversion H11R Anti Glare | eBay The pictures in the auction are not really accurate with the actual item (as it states in the text) - they came without any external ignitors (guessing because they are 35W rather than the 55W versions) and the red lead directly on the ballast is not present - worth plugging in the original light connector into them before mounting to the panel as the clip is on the main body of the ballast with no flexible lead attached. They will just about fit under the right hand side fairing with some moving about to navigate around the original horn location, found it easiest to remove the bottom bolt from the side fairing (the one with the slim nut on the back) when fitting.
Thanks for details. I had the original (larger) ignitors on my st4s, worked for 6 faultless years. I had the slim line ones on my last mts, with the separate ballasts. I was therefore interested to hear what yours were like if there was no ballast. I assume they look like the left hand picture, showing they are thicker than the slim line ignitor. One thing to be aware of. Wherever you mount them, consider that the tank and panels will all come off for servicing, so they may need to disconnect or even unstick them. Therefore ensure you check they have been re mounted correctly before you ride off. I once collected my bike to find it had a funny rattle. The noise was one of the ignitors dangling down between the fork legs :/
Hi, I read your posts with interest, I tried for two hours today to try and fit HID's to my 2012 multistrada but just could not find any room to mount the ballasts, no room under the cover on the left, not enough room under the right compartment, just gave up gutted as I got them working but just couldn't complete the fit.
Welcome, and well done for getting the Multi. I have a 2013 1200S touring. What I like best is that the thing is so adaptable. When it's just me out playing, I take off the pillion peg hangers etc. I have done a few subtle mods that really improved the bike for me, like lower and narrower handlebars (KTM SX85 Renthal fat bars, higher pegs, reverse shift gear lever, modified rear brake pedal, Full Termi (shortened 135mm), shortie screen, Evotech tail tidy, bullet indicators, hand guard, rear grab rail & sump guard removal and bar end mirrors. It's like a Supermoto race bike on steroids now. The nice thing is that a bit of spanner work and it's back to being the most awesome tourer for me and the wife to be. The only issue, and this only applies when we are two up and all the luggage fitted, is the height. It's a bit too tippy toe sometimes. I'm in East Bristol, so if you ever want to go for a ride, give me a shout. Cheers Deaks Here is a pic of her (Scarlett is her name) she's a beauty ;-)
