1200 DVT Dvt Keyless Fuel Cap Fault

  1. Just returned from an excellent trip to Austria. Only problem, on second day at some service station in Germany, stopped to refuel and cap would not release !!!
Called Ducati assistance, who took the bike to a Ducati dealer Nr Urber, Germany. Seems that the solenoid had jammed shut, they opened the lock and removed some metal, cap is now permanently open. The dealer and Ducati assist were both excellent.

Has anyone else had a lock fail, I am not sure if I should replace cap (FOC of course) or just refit the old key cap ?

  2. Personally I've never thought they were worth the effort and potential issue of going wrong. One of the other guys I ride with always packed an allen key to remove the bolts in case of failure on tour...

  3. I've had no problems with the keyless fuel caps I've had fitted to my three Multis over the last 5 years. Had to wait awhile for the new version of the fuel cap for the DVT model, no sure why as the cap doesn't appear to have changed over the years.

  4. This was my exact worry when I thought of buying this cap. Wish it had a key slot as well, so I case of electronic failure we would have another way of opening the cap. I don't think Allen keys would help as the whole tank body panel needs to lift off to be able to disconnect the fuel lines.

  5. I'm not bothered about risking this happening so haven't gone down the keyless-fuel cap route. Far to much faffing about with screwdrivers & such forth too warrant this going wrong even if I add fifteen minutes onto journeys for small interuptions.

  6. When I bought the DVT, I transferred the electronic fuel cap from the pre-DVT Multi to the DVT. It fitted just fine and has worked perfectly ever since. I'm not sure why you "had to wait". The DVT fuel cap has a different part number from the pre-DVT one, but they are compatible.
