1200 DVT Is The Dvt Really That Unreliable??

  1. Potentially that could be put to the test with a 3 year PCP and a 2 year warranty

  2. I'm currently embroiled in this exact scenario. Out of warranty, 2 blown engines in 13 months. Dealer refusing to help. I've had to tell the finance company that I don't think the multi is of satisfactory quality. Waiting to hear back.

  3. I have noticed the same front brake issue on mine. I notified the dealers when I brought in for the 1000 K service, and was told that the brakes are within tolerance. I'd venture to say "so far". I will keep an eye on them.

  5. Stripped and cleaned mine and it still had the third bar of an MOT test machine flickering (indicating drag). He said if the third bar was properly on it would fail. You're right in that they just seem to like to drag. No idea why.

  7. Well I picked up my bike yesterday..so far happy bunny, all my Bluetooth stuff connected first time and all bike controls work great for the multimedia. Panniers took a bit of time but a bit of grease and perseverance and now they seem to have freed up a bit and fit on/off easy. Just need to get the miles in now so I can wind up the revs :sunglasses:
And yes I took the extra years warranty Just incase............

  8. Frankly I think you'll be quite happy. I've covered 6500 miles since Feb and only one issues that I would have had on any other bike. I'm actually finding that my DVT actually improves with age, especially in the engine department. As a new customer you'll have the added benefit of the most recent maps which I believe to be a potential game-changer. No flat spots or requirements for sprocket kits, and all the different engine modes now actually mean something and make sense. I no longer feel the need to live in sport mode or modify the Touring mode for better response.

You've picked a good time to get onboard a DVT.

  9. Hi, Ive had three Multis so far, a 2011, 2013 Twin Spark PP and my current 2016 1200S DVT and not had anymore than minor niggles with any of them. The Twin Spark probably had more character than the DVT but having just hit 4000 miles with it I have to say it's getting better and better!

  10. Thanks. I'm certainly very happy with the bike so far. :grinning:

  11. You sure your on the right forum ;)

  12. Guess I can gripe now. Had puncture in rear tire and plugged on side of road. What a POS tire did they put on the mutley! The tire had a good 500 miles left on it. Otherwise everything good.

  13. Get the dealer (or do it yourself) to add some copper grease between the brake piston and the back of the pad. Fixed the squeeling on mine.

  14. Yes the pannier's are shit. One of the brackets on the pannier snapped on mine. Replaced under warranty. Rubbish. Not used since lol. But lots of silicone spray to clean the slots which get full of micro grit and the pannier brackets.

  15. After 12 months and 10,000 miles of ownership the time had come to part company with my Multistrada 1200S DVT.
It has been an eventful year with smiles and sorrow but overall the bike itself has been great fun and a pleasure to ride.

My personal experiences have been good and bad but mainly bad due to Ducati customer care and poor build quality and materials not my dealer or the bike in itself.

The bike has never let me down, I've always got where I was going inclouding 3000 miles on a 2 week tour of Europe.

    Would I buy another?
Yes in a couple of years once Audi's influence has had time to take full effect on quality of build and parts and the customer care department has been completely sorted.

Recalls for faults, replacements and repairs handled by my dealer have on the whole been a good experience. The lack of interest in customer care by Ducati themselves however has been nothing short of downright pee poor.

    The good points.
Great bike to ride for hours and long distances in all weathers with no need for comfort seats etc etc, they got the ergonomics spot on for me. Also comfortable 2 up with the wife, both of us have room to move and aren't pushed together as with some bikes.

Fun and surefooted to ride on twisty A and Blue roads, keeps with any bike if you want to and will leave many behind with no problem whatsoever.

    Standard heated grips are excellent.

Mirrors are some of the best I've had on a bike.

Sky hook suspension is excellent in use, take time to get the settings right and you have a country lane missile or a motorway armchair.

Panniers and top box are adequate for 2 people to travel round Europe for 2 weeks if you are sensible about clothing needs.

    Bad points, in my opinion.

Lack of proper testing prior to release has left most owners needing the same recalls attended to, which have in my opinion been addressed adequately but not to the best of Ducati's ability given the company that they are.

Recalls for fuel sender, I've had 3 fitted, side stand and software glitches highlight rush to release the bike.

I've had left hand switch gear failure, replaced under warranty.
Front brake discs warped. 2 sets fitted (poor material quality).
Rear wheel distorted, refusal to even look at the wheel by Ducati UK. I had to pay for a replacement. They assume it was my fault! It wasn't. Again poor materials, casting.

Poor throttle response around 5000 revs, again in my opinion avoidable if the mapping had more time spent on it to fix the issue.

Brakes, rear brake is adequate at best, front brakes are good but poor feel on standard pads, changing the pads to a better quality material makes a world of difference. Though spirited use of the brakes leads to warped discs.

Dashboard easily marked/scratched which could have easily been rectified prior to production, again lack of proper testing or feedback from road test staff has not been adequate or has been neglected.

Pannier mount failure where it fits into the rear suffrage. Repaired under warranty with an improved stronger part. I now have one repaired, stronger Pannier and one which has yet not failed. Though could do at any time. Should be recalled as a pair and properly dealt with.

We invest a considerable sum in our bike of choice, I believed I was buying a premium bike, sadly I haven't received premium support from Ducati UK.

As for my dealer I'd buy a bike off them tomorrow if they had a bike I wanted to buy.

  16. Robbieben

A fair and balanced assessment I feel, and one I tend to agree with....

  17. "Poor throttle response around 5000 revs, again in my opinion avoidable if the mapping....."
Could be flapper/butterfly valve seizing. Mines had the same problem. Valve was stuck closed. Gently freed but causes intermittent throttle issies 5-5.5k rpm

  18. What does this mean exactly? Are you saying it has a flat spot there during hard acceleration? Or the bike just runs poorly at that RPM? What do you mean by "throttle response"?

I find a particular flat spot there in 5th and 6th gear for sure. The real power lives above 6500

  19. I mentioned at 1st service i felt a flat spot between 4-5k revs...dealer mech says they are all like that from factory due to the mapping for emmissions regulations.
Well after 1100 miles my bike has developed an oil leak from down below somewhere. Typically i only noticed the small puddle in the garage just before i left to work away for a month..gave a quick check of the obvious, sump plug etc but all tight..... Booked into dealers for repair as soon as i get back to UK...
Also dropped the Panigale over in the back of the van snapping the mirror mount/clock housing and damaging the nosecone....ouch!!! on the day the buyer was coming to collect it....What a T!T...... Now have 2 non 100% Ducati's in the garage..
    Other than that loving it.....
