916 Worth More Standard Or Tricked Up?

  1. I have a 916 which hopefully I will be keeping, but I've added some 998 forks and brake calipers. I'm wondering whether these replaced bits will effect it's resale value when/if I do come to sell it? Bearing in mind it's no minter and has high mileage with little service history (as I do all the work myself) - it also has single seat unit and black wheels so it's not original anyhoo..

I'm thinking of selling the original parts to clear the garage/ raise funds or is it worth keeping hold of them to include in sale of bike? (if that time ever comes)

By writing this I may have answered my own question, but other opinions welcome...

  2. A nice original 916 will always be worth more than a bitza

  3. keep it standard but mint it up rather than throwing loads of aftermarket parts on it.

  4. Standard as commented above. With a few exceptions nothing extra will tend to add value to the bike. Termignoni's are always wanted on any of the 748 - 9** range but anything else is probably superfluous and won't add to the asking price.

Better to sell off any bits separately.

  5. As above, standard with Termi's fitted worth more.

  6. Keep it!!!!!!

  7. Keep it standard, close to impossible to find a clean totally standard 916. Had mine since 2009 and spent best part of 18mths cleaning and retrofitting parts to bring it back to standard.Only parts refurbished were one lower fairing panel repaired and painted and the rear axle was replated, everything else was just cleaned and polished. Pics in my album are few years old now but still in same condition.

  8. mine was far from original when I purchased it 12 years ago. It would take too much money to put it back totally original so that's not an option. So I guess what I'm saying is should I bother keeping the std fork now that I've upgraded them.

    mods already on bike;
    998 forks & brakes
    998 swingarm*
    black wheels*
    carbon bellypan*
    carbon airbox*
    carbon mudguard
    ohlins shock
    50mm JHP exhaust & chip
    tinted screen*
    carbon/kevlar single seat*
    ally mono subframe
    48t DP slipper clutch
    brembo radial m/c
    diamond clipons
    aftermarket crank breather
    aftermarket clutch slave cyl*

items with * I don't have the original part to put back on.

  9. If you intend keeping putting miles on and self-maintaining, I'd flog the std stuff and just use the bike.

  10. yeah, that's kinda what i'm thinking. I never bought mine as an "investment" I bought it to ride/enjoy..

  11. is the 998 swingarm any different to the 916?...

  12. maybe not? 748, 996 & 998 are same but can't find parts fiche for 916 but gotta assume it'll be the same pn too.

  13. Sounds like your 916 is a keeper as you have made it your own. I couldn't afford an early minter so bought a high mileage late 916 with nice carbon bits and love it. If I had the standard stuff I would probably keep it, as I am a bit of a hoarder.
