  1. just tell um and make an offer.

  2. I think you need to establish the persons real knowledge about the bike. Most don't know as much as they think or in some cases think they know more than they do.

You really have to see the bike and then point out things that you feel will not make it as "special" as he thinks it is. Of course that could make no difference at all as he could be "a legend in his own mind" and think it is worth it or that he has the skills to sell this "puppy"

I am surprised at how many of this bikes seem to be hitting the market all at once and some actually seem to be selling, but not most, not yet anyway.

Clearly it's a buyers market with the SP and the SPS, these are rare bikes and make no mistake, but they are old and some are showing signs of that age. It's just that there are a few around at the moment, most seem to be SP's though.

If you can point out things that need to be done to the bike to get it back to the sort of condition it should be in then that may help.

As has been said above make an offer, if he won't take it then you at least you know where you stand.

If you see it in person and wave pound notes at him then maybe that will change their mind.

It's all a game of chance anyway and as long as your heart doesn't rule your head you should be fine.

I have no doubt with the rarity of the models that up to now some may have been searching for a few months or so. Quite possibly come the end of summer prices will be lower if someone really does need to sell and they have had it overpriced and no takers.

  3. Many words of wisdom.

He says he'd take 5 grand for it as is, needing new tires, belts and an MOT. So essentially £5,750 at least. I pointed out the mint, standard one which has just gone for 6. But he didn't waver.

I might leave it a couple of weeks and go and wave a bunch of 20s, see if that loosens things up at all.

  4. My SPS went for £4900 for info at 15k miles and with better history by the sound of it. Looks a decent bike from afar. All the points to note Tony already identified.

  5. You could go and see it if it is near enough. Option then would be to pick more faults with and get him down on price or just wave something like £4,800 cash in front of his nose and see if that makes him waiver on price.

The final question would be of course is it worth anything like the £5,000 he says he wants for it in the first place.

The problem with these bikes is if they are half decent people will keep them and start spending money on them. In which case with so few around you will be lucky to find any going a some point in time and the search could be long and hard.

I know how lucky I was to get mine, it just came to me!!!! from someone on here.

  6. If thats the one I remember, when looking for my 748R this appeared on gumtree with a link to a video. There were a couple of yokels with foreign accents in said vid, started it up and revved it hard. Looked super dodgy and I think it smoked. The thing that gets me is the gap between the nose fairing and the headlights and the left hand side casing has got a huge weld patch.. I'm not 100% its the same bike but there aren't many grey ones doing the rounds

  7. yeah, wouldn't touch that with a barge pole.

  8. A welded casing on a 700 mile engine?... :Stop:

  9. If you look closely at the stand area that appears to be damaged and there seems to be some welding on the bracket. Looks like a scrape on the swinging arm as well.

Clearly he has an off where the bike has slid along the road in a semi upright position.

I have seen an engine case repaired before by someone just using epoxy filler!!! amazingly it didn't leak and the person was using the bike quite happily.

It's also a fair bet that the right hand side engine mount will be damaged around the front spindle mount.

  10. I'm probably selling the R. Downside its in the Netherlands. Looking for 5750£ my02 with 13k no scratch whatsoever 2nd owner, maintained by Biggelaar performance. After a big inspection and tuning (125rwhp) I made about 2ks on it

  11. thats a really good price and makes mine look expensive!

  12. yeah, that is very nice. and would have been tempting (especially with a bit of a road trip thrown in), if I hadn't already bought a crackin' 996.

I'm sure you'll have no trouble selling though.

  13. well mr horn well done... spill the beans then!!
