Hello all, my first post. I've just bought a 2010 848 in black, beautiful bike! But have a minor issue I need help with and I'm on a deadline, A friend and I head off to the black forest in Germany on Wednesday. It's been lowered 20mm, and the side stand shortened by the previous owner. I'd like to return it to normal functioning height. Suspension change shouldn't be an issue, however locating an OEM side stand, or a functioning alternative that is in stock is harder than i thought. I've tried Motorapido and Ducati Croydon so far, does anyone have any ideas, or better yet a stand gathering dust? Perhaps a stand from another model will fit? Apologies if such a thread already exists, I couldn't find one using the search. Thanks for any help! Matthew
Maybe ebay and try to get deliverd quickly or collect? Or anyone that can lend you one that uses as a track bike so has a rear stand...
One of these might get you out of trouble for the time being - Motorcycle Motorbike Plastic Side Stand Support Foot Black | eBay
Thanks, potentially found one - although have to see if it can be delivered in time, think the plastic support foot is a great idea, can just fix to a block to make up the height for the time being. As suggested, if anyone has a stand they don't need that would also be useful! Thanks for the suggestions.
If you remove the existing stand and take it into any competent garage or welding / fabrication shop they will cut and extend plus brace it as a temp fix. Shouldn't, cost more than £20?
Not a bad shout, I found a stand that should be delivered by Tuesday morning, if not I'll explore this. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind offer, I managed to secure one on ebay but as it turns out the suspension is a much bigger job than i expected, the preload adjusters have been messed with, so potentially to avoid complications i might look for some second hand forks. In the meantime my Germany trip will be about straightline drags and relaxed cornering! Appreciate the advice guys, this forum seems like a great place
??? Confused by your post. What about the preload on the front means you cant raise the ride height? How many rinsg are showing? The rear (if its mullared anyway) you cam adjust the prload with a well ained scredriver or bit of bar (like the one in the tool kit) and rubber mallet
Took it down to Mike at MD racing for some advice and unfortunately the 20mm lowering was not done by a dogbone or simple reversable methods. The rear spring was replaced by a short ohlins one, and the front forks have shortened spacers and the preload adjusters have been adapted. Need these front fork bits replaced or, better yet to avoid complications, new front forks.
Unfortunately not! Oh well, not the end of the world. On an unrelated note, know if i can use any/which of the two pin connectors for GPS? (Using something like this) Buy Oxford Products USB 2.1Amp Power Charging Kit online | J&S Accessories Or do people normally just wire it into the battery terminals?
