Went out today and noticed a slight drip of oil on the underside of the fairing to the front under the V section (Under oil cooler). Got home took the right side fairing off and oil was lightly spread over the front of the inside fairings under the oil cooler. Cleaned it off and inspected, the top oil cooler pipe connection needed nipping up by a turn with the wrench of approx 6 min on a clock to tight. Question is how tight do these need to be and is this a common thing that due to vibrations that they can work loose. Done 26,000 miles on her and this it a first.
The boss on the cooler is very thin and can bend and cracked very easily, it needs to be held while tightening the union. Steve
Thanks nipped it up as above and all good touch wood. Off to Stocksley via Hemsley then Whitby and Filey before home and the sun is shining
My 2003 999 had a similar leak which we thought was the oil cooler but it was actually the exhaust valve oil seal. Suggest you keep an eye on it.
