1200 Not Running Well

  1. After some advice/help

few weeks ago bike started to run poorly, could feel it vibrate quite badly through my legs/bum and when stopped and listened to it it sounded more chatterey than normal.

Had it to a local guy who has a good rep for working with the Italian stuff but he couldn't get the bike to talk to diagnostics, so left the bike with him while away for 2 weeks, on my return all he had done was try the standard ECU and still no communication with software so did nothing else

Booked into local Ducati dealers,M&S Newcastle but didn't tell them about local guy.
They took it out for a test ride and said all sounded and felt OK, But I know it wasn't so asked them to do a diagnostics check to see if any faults were showing, I said if all was OK do oil and filter change, which they did and billed me accordingly, I asked if they did the checks and they said yes but all was ok ........ Bike still running shit and wanted to get away to Pyrenees in sept with the wife but haven't got any confidence it the bike

Bike seemed to run better on shell Vpower but so does my fz1

Would the plugs have been changed/ should have changed at 15k service ?
any body got any suggestions or recommendation for a really good Ducati mechanic that would be able to sort it

    Thanks

  2. Phone up another dealer & ask what gets done at that service period. What year of multistrada is it?

  3. 2010 touring s,had it 4yrs done 21k miles

  4. Don't want to alarm you but check the main bearings, they have been known to fail on early bikes and there is an upgraded bearing.

The symptoms are vibration and noise. It may not be your problem but main bearings are difficult to diagnose on a Ducati because they are a noisey engine anyway.

  5. Thanks for the info rotaxracer ... If it was that is it a massive job to do upgraded bearings ?

  6. Don't quote me but I believe it is a full engine strip. It probably isn't the bearings but you haven't got to the bottom of the problem and it maybe time to look outside the box!

  7. I use M&S Newcastle for my DVT and have found them ok, I also know other people who use them who have had no problems, I'd be surprised if they missed something as significant as main bearing trouble, but then again, they couldn't find the source of your problem, I'd be interested to find out what the fault is, and why they missed it, good luck.

  8. Hmm, would be weird if them to miss bearings but sounds similar to my issue (2010, 21k miles and my bearing has failed). It started a bit rumbly and sounding slightly different. That then turned into a loss of power when on constant throttle (which would then kick back in a few hundred yards later and would keep happening), finally the engine just started to sound like a bag of spanners. Diagnosed straight away as bearing failure.

  9. Would be interested to know anything more about the upgraded bearings. Upgraded suggests known issue on the old, which is being denied at the moment.

  10. i had similar vibes and loss of power on my DVT
a throttle body cleaning, spark plug and O2 sensor clean, replaced the air filter did the job it was back to full power and reveing smoothly after that
we do have crap fuel and dusty air over here in India though
    cheers

  11. Surprised it's not been mentioned before.
Check the exhaust valve is fully open and can move easily (If not already removed, remove it).
