so there I was yesterday doing a little run in the sun on my multistrada 1200S Pike Peaks and I noticed the lack of rear brake coming into town, i managed to get it stopped at a junction, however when I went to pull away I noted it was like riding in treacle, so much so the bike tipped me off at a near standstill - luckily it landed on me only breaking my collar bone in the process - after limping to my local Ducati dealer I noted the rear brand new tyre was flat, the valve was bust and the rear brake caliper bolts were missing and the rear caliper was rolling around the rim scuffing the paint as it did - so check these bolts asap - luckily I wasn't tanking on, I now have parts to order to replace the damaged ones in the fall and someones got to pay
Jeeez!! You were lucky there I just removed my rear caliper last night to bleed and fit some new pads, and them bolts were bloody tight, so much so I thought they were going to snap undoing them! Your issue sounds to me like those bolts were left loose at some stage causing them to eventually falling out!
So did the caliper bust the valve whilst rattling around, deflating the tyre? Damn unlucky. No reason they should have been touched for the fitment of the new tyres so the bolts may well have been working loose for some time. I nearly came a cropper after a tyre change. Rear wheel nut wasn't done up properly. Felt the rear wobbling on riding and had to go back and get it done up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes new tyre fitted 2 weeks earlier and as its single sided swing arm the caliper not touched - was lucky didn't tip me of at speed - just need to find out which service the brakes get bled then I'll know which garage to sue
Having just looked at one of your early threads, you reported having some missing bolts on delivery. Maybe your dealer did a shocking build & PDI. Hard to prove though, especially after this length of time. Have you even had a service other than an oil change on that bike yet, or even a change of rear pads?
Hi Please note I am the second owner and collected just in July this year - all services carried out prior to my collecting it where done by Wolverhampton - I am currently trying to find out if and when it had brake pads fitted and by who
Think I may just have to bite the bullit and put it down to experience but Ducati may be aware of this problem and carry out an investigation
I can see your giving people the heads up and to check there calliper bolts so big thanks on that score, but what I'm struggling with is the fact you knew something was wrong with your brakes, I'm assuming the levers needed pumping or at least travelled a long way, yet you kept on riding it? Your lucky you only suffered a broken collar bone. Why didn't you step off as soon as your brakes were different and push it to the kerb?
