Hypermotard Tyre Pressure ...

  1. So what tyre pressures front and rear are people running on there Hypermotards .... ive got a 2010 1100 ...

Although the road surfaces where I live can be very iffy, I usually tend to run my tyres at lower pressures (improved contact patch and better heating). For my 1100s, that means 32psi / 2.2bar front and rear). I have never had any rim damage at that level in 9yrs of using the bike.

On the basis of the above, I started by comparing the manual and the frame and choosing the lowest, on the basis that any psi pressure beginning with a 4 scares the bejezus out of me!

Don't have the pressures to hand, but these came from the frame as I recall and felt totally awful and spongey.

Next step was to move up to 36psi / 2.5bar) front and rear, which I think was based on the lower numbers in the manual. Bike felt really skitterish to me over ripped-up tarmac.

Now moved down to 34psi / 2.3bar and experienced the Goldilocks moment!

    :)

    Hope that helps.

  3. Depending on the tread shape and the tread block size, you may be reducing the mileage over the lifetime of the tyre by running reduced pressures. As the tyre blocks move more, you increase the heating and increase wear. The heat cycling will also bring the oils used in the manufacture of the tyre to the surface giving the common effect seen on track day tyres where tyre warmers are not used of bluing. Sacrificing mileage for comfort has benefits so long as you don't go too far. Andy

  4. Good point well made, Andy. Thank you.

My bike is 100% pleasure and I literally have to go to the end of the drive to get on amazing roads, so there's no "easy" mileage on the tyres whatsoever. I use Dragon Corsa Rossos on the 1100s and usually bank on about 900mi out of a rear and 1,500mi out of a front.

I expect the traction control (even though it's in Race mode constantly) on the 939SP to make a bit of difference on rear wear.

I see bluing only very occasionally, but then again, I do take time to make sure they're up to temperature before riding hard.

  5. Jen has BT021's on her 796 and is running 34f 36r , she was running 42r until it flattened the tyre in no time lol

  6. 1100evo, 34 rear, 32 front, Bridgestone s20evo's, rider 80kg with riding gear

  7. 2008 1100

    Diablo Rosso 2s

    34f/36r

But thinking of going 32f/34r as get a few skittery moments with those pressures

  8. 32f 34r works well on the 748R and the Hyper 821

  9. HM 939SP

    30F
    32R

Tyres have worn beautifully with 2000 miles on them now and still plenty of life left.

Included a track day which made them look lovely!
