  8. Back in the 1980s I rode to mid and north Portugal a few times. The old road from Lamego - Peso da Regua - Vila Real was a real corker (no motorways in those days), and the little roads through the mountains from Miranda do Douro to Vila Real were truly the back of beyond. Great people, great scenery, great food, great rides. I must get around to going there again some time.
     
  9. We went to Lamego from Regua...nice place. I didn't fancy climbing the 600+ steps up to the shrine of Mary, which I am told one should do on one's knees...despite my Jesuit education, I thought, naaah!

    A fantastic way to waste an afternoon with friends. Highly recommend.... But don't tell too many people.
