Ok, I stand corrected. I was talking with a native speaker who told me the two languages were totally different
And I forgot we have that golden visa thing... if you buy a +500.000€ house you may have portuguese citizenship. There's more info in SEF.PT (Customs)
In the early 70s I was designing several apartments and holiday complexes in the Algarve............ .........don't blame me if they fall down.
Back in the 1980s I rode to mid and north Portugal a few times. The old road from Lamego - Peso da Regua - Vila Real was a real corker (no motorways in those days), and the little roads through the mountains from Miranda do Douro to Vila Real were truly the back of beyond. Great people, great scenery, great food, great rides. I must get around to going there again some time.
We went to Lamego from Regua...nice place. I didn't fancy climbing the 600+ steps up to the shrine of Mary, which I am told one should do on one's knees...despite my Jesuit education, I thought, naaah!
The lovely beach and beach restaurant is: Rei Das Praias. Pria dos Caneiros, Ferragudo, 8400-272 A fantastic way to waste an afternoon with friends. Highly recommend.... But don't tell too many people.
