Sup boys n gals, Just thought I'de pop in to say hello since i'm all new to the forums. I do however have a question would love to get some constructive feedback on. I'm about 10 or so days away from receiving my brand new 2016 MTS DVT Pikes Peak and would like to ask what are the advantages of the Ohlins vs Sachs suspension system. My dealer said "well its all about preference since some riders will like one and some the other." In my honest opinion that's a poor answer to a pretty expensive question. Main reason I went for the PP version besides the looks....is simply because I can afford it and well it will probably be the only one around in my area for some time to come. I know you get the termi and some carbon bits but I still fail to see the big deal about Ohlins over Sachs. I don't know never ridden either yet just sat on them both.
For most standard S will be better imho. Skyhook 2nd gen is great. No messing with tools, unlike ohlins which will need all that stuff (unless its also electronic? Read somewhere it isnt)
Welcome, I had this exact dilemma recent!y, and went for a 1200s with touring pack. I could have afforded the PP but chose not to. The dealer explained to me that it's only £3.5k more than S, but the S already has expensive skyhook suspension, so the comparison financially should be with a boggo model, not a well kitted S, my issue was this, it's actually £6.3k more than a boggo model which then makes the ohlins, carbon and end can seem very dear. If it still came with light wheels, may have swung it, but 6k over boggo for some ohlins seemed dear. Only my opinion, but very happy with my S so far.
Welcome icap, your question is a little bit late as you already wait for PP to be delivered. I have tested Skyhook suspension for 16k km at the road and also I had some track sessions at Serres and Misano circuits and I am pretty happy with the perfomance of the suspension. It is like somebody is constantly with a tool and adjust the suspension at every moment. Totaly agreee with @bradders and @Wayne58 above. Enjoy your bike and have safe rides! Giannis
