1200 DVT New Bike

  1. At long last I've just had my new bike, ordered last year (long story), anyway a couple of questions please, should the DVT come with an Optimate charging point, I thought I'd read somewhere that it did. And does anyone know what is causing that noise that sounds like a fart when you switch the engine off, or is it just my bike ?

  2. Ducati charge through the DDA port under the seat, optimate would require hard wiring to battery.
    Mine doesn't "fart"

  3. The DVT 2015 Multi have one switched 12V din outlet in the front. I've got a canbus optimate and I used this port on my BMW S1000XR to charge. Any reason you can't do the same on the Multistrada?

  4. mine doesn't make a "noise" when i switch it off.

  5. As you have mentioned, the Hella socket is switched. So when the ignition is off, it's not connected to anything. That might be a reason why it would be difficult to use it for charging.

  6. Firstly thanks for the info, secondly what's a DDA port, where is it and what does it look like please. Bit of a luddite when it comes to this sort of stuff.
And lastly do I have to buy a Ducati specific charger, I have been using the dealers Multi for a few weeks which had an optimate lead cable tied on ?

  7. It's easy enough to add your own Optimate lead, just a bit tricky to get to the battery terminals on the DVT. I bought one and got the dealer to add mine at the first service.

  8. When I bought my DVT the dealer asked me if I already had a battery charger. Yes, an Optimate 3 I said.

Them: "You can use an Optimate 3, but it would be better off with an Optimate 4 because of the canbus wiring. We fit an Optimate 4 lead as standard to all Multistrada's at no extra charge".
Me: "Ok that's great, I'll order an Optimate 4 as well please".

A nice touch from the dealer without any pressure to buy the charger, but it made sense to me to get one.

  9. Going by what Nigel has said in his post you could have charged it through the DDA port with the Optimate 4 if it's canbus enabled, so why did they fit another lead. I'm just asking because this is all black magic as far as I'm concerned :(
Don't know if the Optimate cable the dealer had fitted to their demo bike was a 4 one, but the charger I used was an M&P cheapo (Optimate look alike) and I had no issues with it with the demo bike or my previous twinspark.

  10. I dunno either, like you say it's all it's all black magic.. busses and cans and DDA's... :fearscream: It just seemed like the easy option for me, besides which I'd had my old charger for a while so it made sense to upgrade it with the new bike.

DDA port is the plug attached to the side of the rubberised unit in the centre of the bike. I use the Ducati unit which just plugs straight in, easy peasy
