Lithium Battery

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by goldbullion, Sep 27, 2016.

  1. Hi there - newbie here!
Was thinking of getting a lithium battery to replace my dead yuasa - has anyone had any experiance of them? positives or negatives?
As I dont have anywhere to trickle charge my bike - I like the idea of having a lithium battery which would only take 2 hours or so to charge if it needed it
    Thoughts please!

    Cheers :)

  5. Thanks @Robarano not sure why that didn't come up in my search...So basically what i can ascertain from the 300+ odd posts in the thread is that if you are going to upgrade to a lithium battery you need to upgrade the charging cables as well?

  6. The only negetive I have found to date is that a Lithium battery does not like the cold. Cranking on a cold day is worse than a conventional lead acid battery. Positives still out weight that one negetive for me so far and I'm running Lithium batteries on my track bike and my 1098R. Andy

  7. Thanks Andy - did you change your cable connections or did you continue to use the standard one which came with the bike?
Also would you mind me asking which lithium battery you went for?

  8. As yet still got the standard cables but probably only a matter of time before I upgrade. I bought Shido which come with an internet activated 3 year guarantee. Although they have no need to be, the batteries retain their standard physical size so no change to the battery box but they are substantially lighter. Andy

  12. Oh yes, one word of caution, maximum charge voltage not to exceed 14v. I use a set up very similar to the optimate but without the discharge and maintenance function. I also believe that the latest Ducati branded charger is also fine. Andy

  14. Cam belts can go for a decade
Cheap supermarket petrol and oil are just fine
The dry clutch mod is for tossers
    All tyres are the same
Car oil is fine in a Ducati

  17. I have a Lithium that has worked fine for a year now. No cable changes needed and nor is a battery tender.

  18. I'm glad we're getting along better, some of the more earnest types on here come to blows about vital matters such as this, but we've reached a state of harmony. Let's raise a glass to that
