999 Cold Start Lever

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Cream_Revenge, Oct 10, 2016.

  1. Hey

Is it normal to need/use this on the 1st start of the day? Is it only a WINTER thing really?

I've just discovered it existed after not needing it for the past 7 months (see technical help :Banghead:) and wondering how often others use/need it?

    Thanks

  2. Only ever needed it when really cold. I'd forgotten about it really.

  3. Having a quick scan of the handbook its not 100% clear but seems to give the impression if its below 10 Degrees then you should use it.

  4. 749s,,, had forgotten about it ,, never use it.

  5. 998 (pretty much same motor) always use it from cold.

  6. mine needs it every time ??????

  7. Sorry, are you asking?

  8. Handbook suggests to me to use under 10deg, don't use over 30deg, but does not mention 10-30deg. Not that I've seen any how.

  9. No my bike needs the cold start every time to start from cold not much but a small amount as it will not tickover smooth until slightly warmed up.

  10. K, thanks.

So basically no real pattern then. But not necessarily an issue.

  11. I don't think so if I try to start from cold with no choke it just spits back and makes the sprag clutch go crazy I am in the process of checking it all out as I have only had the 749 a couple of months and busy putting right a few poor maintenance issues.

It has Iridium plugs in which I am not a fan of they seem to flood easily . Cable upgrade to follow as well will see how it starts after it is done.

  12. I have good NGK standard plugs and the starting kit and all was peachy 10 days ago.

  13. NGK standard on my bench as I speak just getting a spark plug socket modded .

  18. but in retrospect, i never go near let alone try to start or drive it in cold or wet weather other than to turn the heater on in the shed !!

  19. For NGK?
    Not my experience... :/

  20. Mine does, there's 2 in the set (the jumbo set that's often half price) the thinner one fits no problem :)
