1200 DVT Just Curious, Does Anyone Know....

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Vespcati, Oct 6, 2016.

  1. ....what components make the 1200 DVT heavier than the previous Multi? Is it the 10 extra horses?

  2. Between the 2010-14 Multi and the 2014-15 DVT almost all the components are different, including the frame, rear subframe, wheels, brakes, suspension, all bodywork, seats, all electrics & electronics, fuel injection, exhaust, and the DVT cylinder heads. The only parts which are even roughly the same are the bottom end of the engine and the swinging arm. So it would be merely coincidental if the weight was the same.

  3. The cogs for the variable timing. 5 kilos each.

  4. Euro 4 gubbins and the IMUs at a guess.

  5. According to the Ducati website, there appears to be only a 3kilo difference in dry weight between the Twinspark and the DVT ?

  6. I make it 17kg dry weight difference on Ducati website (196kg v 213kg).

To those who've owned both bikes, can you feel the difference?

  7. No!

  8. Only if you have to pick it up off the floor!

  9. I own both bikes, and the DVT feels lighter. I think this is because the centre of gravity is slightly lower and the mass is more centralised and better balanced. The lower seating position also helps a little.

  10. The DVT feels light when sat on it, I think this is down to the lower and narrower seat which enables me to get both feet flat on the ground. Not a lot difference between the models when pushing the bike around, but you certainly notice when you've got full panniers, top case and tank bag.

  11. Thanks Pete & Steve. Quite helpful.
I'm trying to justify to myself why I should upgrade :)

  12. Justification should just be that you should do it if you want or feel the need to. :)

  13. Both are just as difficult to push up hill

  14. weighted 2015 DVT1200S last March, full tank, R&G sliders : 247 kg
After the fuelling remap on Christmas 2015 dyno showed 131,5 Hp at rear wheel - about 3 shorter of the previous non DVT.

  15. Ducati have already released many more maps which no doubt improve things significantly. I picked up my bike in Jan and went back in for some fork seal work in May and it came out with a different map which was noticeably more potent.

I suspect Ducati released the bike with a slightly tame state of tune on the unproven top-end of the engine. Other manufacturers do similar things with new-ish engines so it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

  16. Ive had both bikes and pushed both up the same drive from my garage , both had full systems on and the DVT is definitely heavier and it feels heavier.
I do prefer the DVT to the old bike for lots of reasons , however the older bike was lighter , faster through the twisties and had 147bhp at the rear wheel after its hilltop remap.
not had the DVT done yet , though it does "feel" like it has a bit more torque low down with the full system on.

  17. I have eaten enough pies for the difference not to matter.
