Hi guys I was told/saw a picture of an Enduro with Barkbusters modified to fit. After writing to Barkbusters, Touratech and the usual suspects, it seems there is nothing on the horizon for the MTS DVT so I decided to try and retrofit the Barkbusters for previous MTS to fit. Since I totally suck at DIY, I went to a mechanic to get it done. It was a fairly straightforward job if you have the right tools. Pictures below for reference. The guards are the ones meant for the 2013 MTS. I had the bar drilled from the side instead of the front for aesthetic reasons and also because the original handguard had a more substantial flat surface to better hold the bolt and nut.
Bark busters are brilliant - I dropped mine last year, almost upside down and along with the R&G spindle protectors, the bike sustained no damage whatsoever. Also good for removing the wing mirrors from twats on the M25, that try to block you from filtering ;-)
@Smurf can you show a picture of how he's mounted the Barkbuster to the handlebar, the end nearest clamps please.
Looks good. A @broke requested, some more shots of the attachment to the bars using the clamps would be very helpful.
OK, so the standard handlebar clamp was used. The Ducati Knuckle Guards parts (the lower plastic parts, painted silver, L/H: 4601C312AA & R/H: 4601C302) have been cut back and attached to the Barkbuster bar. A good solution however if you wanted to return the bike to standard these parts are about £45 each to replace, so it's probably easier and cheaper to sell the bike with the Barkbusters installed. Looks like the Barkbusters hardware kit for the 13-14 Multistrada (BLG-013) is about £94.95 (inc. VAT & delivery) from Chainspeed. Thanks @Smurf, looks like a nice job by my your mechanic. I'm very tempted to do the same thing. I had Barkbusters installed on 2013 Multistrada and they saved the handguard and clutch lever when I had a zero speed topple over while two up and fully loaded. Certainly saved a lot of grief as we were on tour in Italy at the time.
