1200 DVT Help With Starting 'ex' Accident Damaged 2015 Dvt

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by cad169, Oct 15, 2016.

  1. Hi All. Hope someone can help! I bought a smashed 1200S DVT. Quite a heavy front end accident. It also came without the keys which as you can imagine has been a real pain.

I have pretty much put everything back together now (this is the second Multi I have ‘restored’, so am quite confident). I have bought a new key and sent it together with the hands free unit to Carmo Electronics in The Netherlands who re programme the key and send it back together with a new red key.

    So,

The bike clocks now light up suggesting the new key has been detected and is good to go.

The immobiliser red lights go out as I would think they should do.

All electrics work, ie, lights, horn, indicators.

All modes appear and the clocks seem to show input changes and setting changes.

Green neutral light, red oil light, and abs light flashes. I would expect these to be on. The tank is empty, so the low fuel warning is on.

The DTC/DWC light is flashing but is this like the abs and goes off once you are on the move?

The engine management light is on all the time and the little ‘generic amber warning light’ in the top left is on.

This is the biggie!!……..when you press the starter button nothing happens. Not a peep, not even a click.. Ive checked everything, all wiring ect. The bike only had 66 miles on the clock before the accident, so the battery is ok and now fully charged. I would expect the bike to turn over at least?

The handbook says that the engine management light turns on in the case of engine errors, and in some cases will lock the engine. Possibly a heavy shunt would cause this? Is there something I can do to unlock the engine!

    Any help would be appreciated!!

  2. Side stand switch or neutral indicator maybe.

Will the bike start with it held upright side stand up and clutch lever in?

The reason I suggest this is I had the same situation with my bike when the neutral indicator sensor failed.

Otherwise maybe an issue with the kill switch?

  3. Does the engine turnover or seized in the crash...

  4. Hi Thanks so far!

Checked side stand switch. and neutral. All seems to be ok. As soon as side stand goes down, the side stand indicator light comes on. Neutral is where its supposed to be, and I can go up and down the gears by spinning the wheel, and the engine turns ok so I guess its not seized!

The immobiliser lights go out ok when the dash lights up. If the immobiliser is kicking in, would the engine still turn but just not start up? All I'm getting is literally nothing!

  5. Could it be a kill switch issue? Maybe the switchgear was damaged in the crash?

  6. You wouldn't get anything if the immobiliser is active. You'd get a single click on the starter button and that's it.

I'd definitely look to disable the immobiliser if you can just to rule it out.

  7. Ill take the switch apart tomorrow and have a look. It looks undamaged from the outside.
Can you disable the immobiliser, or is all electronically controlled by the hands free unit?

  8. Just try holding the clutch in with the side stand up and try and start to see what happens...

  9. Are you sure the replacement key was correctly programmed as the hands free unit just picks up the signal and sends the signal to ECU where it compares codes stored in ECU (I think)

  10. Also have you tried with the PIN - maybe factory default or the last 4 numbers of VIN as bike had such low mileage

Contact supplying dealer - they can tell you what it was set at if it was changed.

  11. Take it to a ducati dealer, when they ask you anything act dumb and get it done under warranty.

  12. maybe try battery direct to starter motor , see if it kicks...

  13. Thank you so much everyone.
I have tried the side stand up and clutch in thing and still nothing. I contacted the previous owner and he wasnt very forthcoming at all. He couldnt remember what the pincode was that he set. The pin is asked for so it has been set as something other than the vin or 1234 ect, ive tried those.

I am veering towards the key programming thing but surely as the key is recognised, and the immobiliser lights go out on clock startup, the immobiliser is switched off?

I'll send a mail to the guys at the Programmers and ask them. Ha! I do like the sound of just taking the bike in and getting it done under warranty, but I think they will suss a rat! there was a lot of damage!!,

I'll definitely try the starter motor thing and I'll keep you all informed

  15. Ok, so have taken the kill switch apart. Its all printed circuit stuff so a bit difficult to see if anything is wrong. The switch has the back light working and obviously power ups the clocks so it maybe ok.

I have noticed the petrol pump doesn't prime on start up. There is no click from the solenoid when I go to start. Also, I have emptied the tank of the old petrol and put new in (as the bike had been standing around when I bought it) but strangely the clocks still read empty and 00 mile range. As I say all the other electrics work fine, even the settings and mode changes. I did have a good look for lose connections when I took the tank off, and re connected everything. The connections and the starter all look fine. As I said, pre accident, the bike had only travelled 66 miles!!

I have now contacted the guys who programmed the new key and they tell me that they did programme the key to unlock the immobiliser. As the red lights go out on 'clocks on' I assume the immobiliser is ok.

As the bike had a huge shunt, is there something which would have shut everything down that just needs re-setting at the Dealer? Not sure what else to do now other than hiring a van and taking it to them to sort out.

    Thanks all:grinning:

  16. are there no traveling mechanics in your are with diagnostic equipment,,, / join the AA.

  17. It sounds like it's most likely an immobiliser issue. The immobiliser works by disabling the starter and fuel pump relay functions. No fuel pump relay then no fuel pressure, no injector function and no sparks. None of these functions appear to be working on your bike.

  18. Just run it down a hill mate and bump it ;)

This weeks continuing joke: never gets old :)

  19. If you just bought the bike there should still be Ducati Assist recovery cover on it, get them to recover it to a dealer. It may not be registered to you but it should be on the system 00800 33 22 88 77 (They ask for the registration and address and you need the Frame number when you call them)
