996 lack of power (American import)

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by iansbike, Nov 13, 2012.

  1. Hi,
can anybody help with some advice on my work mates 996.
He says that it feels like its down on power but because
the bike is a American Import he thinks it may be restricted ?
If so does anybody now were the restrictions are i.e airbox,
    exhaust or fuelling

Having had it on a track day he says that it gets up to about
110-120 on the straights ok and it then runs out of steam
Then he is then getting passed by 600,s:eek:. on top end

He,s had a 748 in the past and says that it was much quicker bike
    any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks Ian

  2. Not much to go on, what model 996? What gearing is it running? Does it rev OK? Is the clutch slipping? Any symptoms?

  3. as far as i know the bike runs fine revs out ok and the clutch is fine i,m not sure what model 996 it it think its just the base model (5 spoke wheels) but as i say he
seems to think it may be restricted because it was built for the American market but i will get more info off him tomorrow

  4. Just a thought, as I don't know what RON American fuel is......

But my jap imported Subaru Impreza, Mitsubishi FTO and Honda Vfr ran better with higher octain fuel (shell optimax etc) because the jap market is designed to run 100 RON fuel and in the uk we get about RON 97 fuel.
