Mick first of all hi, and glad your ok too! This is clearly a fault and not over torquing. This needs Ducati Italy to do something about it. I emailed Ducati directly after my dealer were not contacting me. Ducati Italy rang me the following day! Mention my name Ian Foster to them and see if they start paying attention to us now. I'm going to email them again with a link to this thread and hopefully talk to them.
Hi mate, yeah glad the outcome wasn't worse! Clearly this is a problem ducati have to address, seems that it's 2013 bikes that are affected, iv found 4 or 5 cases of the same problem here in the UK on forums and apparently there's about 5 cases in the USA. Ducati are playing with our lives here tbh! Can you give me the email address and contact name at ducati so I can send them a stiffly worded email? I don't think I even want my bike back if I'm honest, will always be in the back of my head about it happening again, which will spoil the riding experience
Sorry I've been away and missed emails. If you've not already found it,This is the contact form email. Contact_us@ ducati.com Click at the bottom where it says" contact form" in bold. Fill the form in. They rang me back following day ( Bologna number) so be available to answer phone. They did ring a second time after i missed first call.B E sure to mention mine as it's probably theost recent. Ian Foster. We could all do with E-mailing contact_us@ ducati.com and express our concerns and say we won't ride them till something is done! They need to look at Sato Racing bracket and manufacture them and recall them!
Iv already got n rid of mine, supplying dealer took it back, full refund and a new lid for a bit compensation, now got a brand new zx10r
Wasn't this a known in the US on some of the older bikes? There was a problem with the wrong bolts fitted on a few bikes, it's on the US forum. I'm busy in the garage but will try to find it later.
This is the one I was thinking of although it says that recall is for 2012 bikes. Recall Details for DUCATI - 1199 Panigale Some more details here on which bikes were affected Please read: SWING ARM RETAINING BOLT RECALL BULLITEN: the real story!! - Ducati 1299 Forum
I think that is for the bolt to the linkage of Shock absorber not the front one into bracket on rear cylinder which broke. Even so there is a problem with their bolts nonetheless!
Guys, I understand this is an older thread an apologies for reigniting but thought I would add into this. My late father owned an 08/2013 built 1199 Panigale - around six months ago he was involved in a fatal road accident on his 1199, as with all fatal accidents in Scotland there is an inquiry (which is still ongoing). The inquiry is near conclusion and the cause of the accident is - so far - being deemed as; 'the bolt for the rear linkage snapping under poor tensile build quality causing the rear end of the bike to collapse incidentally causing the rider to loose control.' The bolt - at the request of the PF and Police Scotland - was analysed by an independent metallurgist who concluded the bolt was not up to tensile requirement in order to support the frame and the weight on the bike - he commented that he was surprised it had lasted as long as it did. Has anyone received a response from Ducati on this issue?
Really sorry to hear of your loss... Incredible these things can take so long after such catastrophic events...
That's bad news. Ducati UK have not contacted me personally but local dealer has said over torquing caused it. Mine was the front bolt not the linkage bolt btw ,which has been a known fault as dealer told me. Their shock bolts are inferior obviously and should be recalled for front and rear bolts and front supporting bracket retro fitted IMO. I Will email Tim @ Ducati UK, he might not know our lives are at stake?,one never knows he might take action!
Ryan, sorry for your loss, I'm sure it's still an incredibley hard thing to even discuss. Ryan / Chops : Are both bolts being discussed the same in terms of size and or specification?
this is cringey reading. do the bikes frame numbers fall into the recall campaign numbers? there is always bikes missed, its down to dedicated dealers to check for outstanding recalls on services. If i was Ducati, I would be taking this very very seriously. Sorry to all concerned.
