If you can't justify the cost of a bikesat aroundforoneride a week, prepare your bank account to be severely raided for one race per month! Racing is great, but I have been plenty of serious injuries and it will take up a lot of time and resources. I have bought a bike primarily for track that I can use on the road... only the cost of one bike, and I get to really enjoy it in both environments. I know if I got a dedicated track bike I'd start pushing again, and could do without the injuries that come with that. At least using a nice bike I am half sensible!....
It isn't the money, I'll gladly throw money at a hobby. But I'm just not sure I'm getting what I want out of it, therefor questioning the outlay for the return..
what do you want? Sounds like just speed on track... if money isn't an issue and you don't want to go on the road, track prep the bike you have and go have fun!
Yeah pretty much, I've raced cars and previously to that karts from a young age at national level. So I guess it's in my nature !
Think it depends on your situation. With a wife and young family I can sneak off for an hour or 2 on a sunny summer evening or maybe 1/2 day in a Sunday morning but full days are a rarity as holidays off work are precious. If I only went on track I'd only get out 1/2 dozen times a year and that's just not enough. I work from home so I need to get out the house and away from a screen. Perfect world I'd buy a NL annual pass and do a TD every Wednesday but that's lottery territory.
I've heard tracking a bike can run up the bills fast. I must confess the thought of trashing a set of supercorsa's in a day is enough to scare me off going on the track... I can afford to run mine but only just. I need my bike fix multiple times in a week. I couldn't ride an old shitter to work cos that'd be no fun. And like cream revenge I've got kids (3) and my wife values her holidays and our time together as I do. The tt is my only escape as it were...i get away for 4 days with my mate and it combines everything.... Track day every day on the mountain, social side and touring (live in Bristol so we get the ride up and back) plus the shopping (round the back of the grandstand). I get the odd Sunday to get out (once to loomies this year) a couple of evenings to weston bike night. I will at that when we go to loomies, we go early morning on a Sunday mid summer 6am meet so the roads are virtually deserted so we get a good fast ride coupled with my riding to work that keeps me sane...
Just to add that last year I was thinking of selling the rsv4 as I didn't get out on it that much (apart from to the tt)... Id never been out on it as such before with a group. There was an rsv4 meet at loomies so I met up with a few lads from the af1/rsv4 forum and thoroughly enjoyed it so much so that I keep the rsv4 literally for rideouts.... So it doesn't cost a great deal to run...
well , if speed is your thing ( i can totally empithise ) then go buy a good mountain bike,, 3k gets a top bike, £500 on good armour and go launch yourself off the top of a mountain every sunday morn,,, the sensation of speed is fantastic,, cheap thrills baby.
