Hi guys looks like my stator has gone down on my sp3 either looking at getting it rewound or new replacement, is it a do-able job yourself and tips or guides anywhere I can read up on before I give it a go? I have ordered side gasket and puller.
Changing the stator is a dawdle, rewinding it definitely not DIY. When you are removing the cover make sure you get all the screws out, there is one hidden behind the clutch slave cylinder. To remove the stator, undo the retaining screws then whack the cover face down onto the bench. The stator should fall out on to the bench. While you are in there it would be a good idea to replace the wires from the stator to the regulator with a heavier gauge.
I have been advised to use West Country Windings for repairs. Just about to send a 748RS and Honda NC29 stators off. Andy PS - they aren't in the west country any more, I think it's in Essex now
Cheers guys, any views on aftermarket stators, I can get one for around £120 and only a hour from the house.
WCW have got some shocking reviews on google, may well have some good ones as well but if so they not so easy to find. You could try Rexs Speed Shop whoI believe do rewinds as well. Worth checking round fully before diving in.
Interesting although I notice most of the complaints are from 2013. My RS stator is a bit out of the ordinary and WCW were recommended to me by someone I know in the racing fraternity. Going to think twice now because I can't afford to have it cocked up. Andy

Just spoken to Rex's Speed Shop and certainly from the conversation I had with them, they seem to know what they are talking about. Being in East Sussex, I might even have a run out there and drop my stuff off in person. Good to know all the feed back for WCW isn't all bad as well. Andy
