Do you find there are some bikes that seem to have a special presence to them? Every time I see a Bimota (which is not exactly a common occurrence) it sort of shimmers, the world goes hazy, and heavenly choral music plays. I once saw a Honda NR750 and that had the same effect, as did the Norton F1 sport at the Ace Cafe on new years day a few years ago. Anyone have any other bikes that seem to just have a special magic about them?
RD500, RG500 and my dad's old RD400e with it's knife edge power band. oh, and as eyore points out below, 998/996/916, of course!
I've been trying to explain this to the wife. How can a bike have an "aura" or "presence" ? I was at the Gold Cup meeting at Olivers Mount not so long back. A large Irish contingent traditionally come over, all real road racers, from the older lads on the classic stuff to Robert Dunlop and some of the TT lads. The bikes, from the classics to the Padgetts and Tyco's all had an "aura" View attachment 7886 Difficult to define but I just wandered around the paddock on the Friday night seeing bike after bike that looked effing gorgeous.
Just dug out an old PB mag, July 04 iirc, and drooled over the newly released 916! Author salivates over it. Maybe it's an era thing to have subliminally got me aboard my duc?
