This is exactly what was said about the old Top Gear when the 3 amigos were on it. Usually by people who watched the whole show and every show in the series.
One thing for sure is that all three of them are crap drivers. Watching that other dude thrashing cars around the Redbull Ring was way better. Love Portimao though and once they let the racing drivers do their thing it was much better.
IMHO too much about the trio and their dynamic, not enough about cars. The absence of much in the way of filler material such as news or segments with people other than Clarkson, May and Hammond made it seem to be just about them. Cars appeared to be secondary to that. Sure it's always been more about entertainment than cars but I feel, in the opening episode at least, the balance was wrong. That's not to say I won't be watching the rest of the series mind you. The inner child in me is looking forward to it. Amazon's bigger budget shows through in the pumped up production values though the editing is skewed heavily towards the artsy end of the spectrum, more suited to short 30 second adverts than 10 minute segments of an hour long show. Maybe future episodes will improve on the opener?
without those three cars it would have been a rite load of sh*te,,, geared to an american audience,, one good joke two half decent ones.. a bit predictable. ( roll on nxt week )
I watched it on the free link It looked like they were uncomfortable with the audience, a bit like a nervous kid doing a presentation at school. There were some really funny moments so as it's the first one, it wasn't too bad. Be interesting to see if they do knock Clarkson's house down.
Watched on the link as well. Agree. Definitely some first night nerves. And out of deference for their audience they spent a bit too long in the tent gassing. Still, pretty good for the first show. You can see where the millions went. Clarkson demolished his house back in the summer to build a new one on the site. In typical style he had it blown up rather than knocked down and it made the national news. There was a knowing look when May asked if they were really going to knock it down. I reckon the big send-off will make it into the script.
not being an aficionado of tracks and track days, what would a genuinely fast bike/rider combo get around there in?
I've just watched the last couple of episodes of GT and they were awful. Too much padding and the jokes are not really funny. Oh dear.....I think they could edit it down to about 15-20 mins. The Beach Buggy two parter is a big yawn for all and there is a lack of credibility that makes it hard to watch.
Yes agreed, the first one was really a high point but not to be maintained. Conversely, Top Gear started really badly and just kept getting better. The last two or three episodes were really rather good.
